Watching Movies

Now who really watches and listens to a movie on headphones? Um no, me neither -- it's all about gaming and tunes man! But we'll give it a go regardless. You know what, I'll start with the T word, we start with Transformers: Dark of the Moon, despite the critique I can't help but really dig this movie series. Hey, nostalgia as I did watch the original cartoon series when I was young.

The movie starts with that intro bassy play-full noise, it's sounding nice and crisp, deep bass much like the 2000 offers. Truthfully downstairs I have the HTPC Onkyo / Bose Accoustimass 5.1 setup and know that this particular 'goo-goo-goo-ga-ga-gaaa' noise at the start of the movie (nu puns intended actually) exits to your rear right. Being virtualized surround the Vengeance 2100 does not even come close. It's stereo, really good and wide stereo I have to state that. Skipping into the movie we notice that Vengeance 2100 is great with voices, actually. Where Optimus says 'Earth... birthplace of the human race' will nearly give you goosebumps as Opti has that nice phat undertone.

Something else that will give ya goosebumps ;)

Dare I say it, for stereo both the Vengeance 2000 and 2100 excels in movies and video. You'll notice the most very intricate little details, which in Transformers are plentiful. In one of the explosions I heard the rubble come down to the ground, and I swear the audio editors used ping-pong balls in there. That's how clear it sounds with the Vengeance 2100. True surround keeps haunting me though, laser shot sounds did not 'exit' behind me so that remains the only quirk though I'm being horrendously nitpicky. But my opinion of surround sound headphones stands as it is, it is nothing like having a true surround system. Once you get past that idea you will learn to realize and respect the overall audio quality of the V2000/2100 sets.

I watched roughly half an hour of the movie and do have to mention that the headset remains comfortable though the ears do tend to get a little warm. During movie playback we had the EQ tuned onto Audiophile 2+ mode with a little added bass and higher treble, the 2100's are bright and clear this way with a nice deep bass.

The inevitable comparison with Corsair's initial headset, the HS1; we find that they are very similar in sound. Both the V2100 and the HS1 have similar bright characteristics, with not a lot of bass (unless tweaked in the EQ). But overall the V2100 is an excellent headset for videos, gaming, Skype, and listening to music. And yeah, movies sound pretty nice as well. Let's move onwards to the conclusion though.
