Product Showcase - Core i7-6950X
Product Showcase
Alright, it's time for some photos. We received an engineering sample Core i7-6950X processor. As you can see, these are ES confidential samples and thus vanilla picked, non-retail versions. Once you have one in your hand you realize these are a little heavy.
The Core i7-6950X clocks in at a base-clock of 3.0 GHz, yet can turbo towards 3.5 GHz depending on load levels versus active threads; this ten core processor can be hyper-threaded towards 20 threads. Given its 10-core architecture, Intel kept the clock frequency down a bit. That actually means that a Core i7-6850K with six-cores and a turbo up to 3.8 GHz in many scenarios might be faster based on the default clock frequencies (if the application isn't heavily threaded).
It's quite a powerful puppy, I'll give you that. Expect the final sales price to be just as powerful at just under 1,600 USD per processor.
New on the heatspreader are two, let's call them hinges. You can easily take out and insert a processor now. As simple as it is, it's very clever and handy.
