The Photos

On the next few pages we'll show you some photos. The images were taken at 2560x1920 pixels and then scaled down. The camera used was a Sony DCS-F707 5.1 MegaPixel.

The BFG GeForce 8800 GTX 768 MB.

Right then, here we see the BFG GeForce 8800 GTX 768 MB water cool edition. That's a near kilogram weighing brick ..

From A to Z this is a reference design apart from the cooler obviously. Oha nd in case you are wondering what the chip is near the display connectors, it is TMDS display logic into a custom, discrete ASIC. (Transition Minimized Differential Signaling) is a transmission method for sending digital information from a video source to for example your flat panel display.

TTwo DVI connectors, dual-link DVI of course. With the 7-pin HDTV-out mini-din, a user can plug an S-video cable directly into the connector, or use a dongle for YPrPb (component) or composite outputs. The prior 9-pin HDTV-out mini-din connector required a dongle to use S-video, YPrPb and composite outputs.

To your upper left corner you can see two SLI connectors on the GeForce 8800 GTX. The second SLI connector on the GeForce 8800 GTX is hardware support for "impending future enhancements" in SLI software functionality. Don't you love diplomacy. So that's either Physics as add-on or two-way SLI. With the current drivers, only one SLI connector is actually used. You can plug the SLI connector into either the right or left set of SLI connector.

That's right the logo is laser etched in there.

Another look at the GeForce 8800 GTX - armed with 768MB GDDR3 memory and a length of 10.5 inches long. Here we can see the two 6-pin power connectors. Since the PCB is rather long they have been placed logically on the upper side of the card. Very clever as that'll save lot's of space. And yes a buzzer speaker is on there (the little black knob with the whole in the middle). So if you forget to hook up a 6-pin connector a little alarm will beep.

I would sincerely like it when that buzzers is replaced with the voice of Christina Aguilera screaming from the top of her lungs "to get that thing plugged in". Yeah .. I lost my Britney fetish after seeing some photo's I really wish I had not seen .. uch my stomach.
