We review the AMD FX 8370 and 8370E processor today. The CPUs tested today have eight physical CPU cores, the fastest SKU will have a base clock of 4000 MHz, and can Turbo towards 4300. And that makes the FX series a multi-threaded high frequency monster. AMD today also introduces a more energy friendly E type FX processor. That CPU still has eight physical CPU cores but it will have a much lower base clock of 3300 MHz, but it can still Turbo towards 4300. Ah yes, released two years ago you guys will be familiar hearing the magic word 'Vishera', it is the codename for the Piledriver core based FX series processors from AMD.

We test the FX-8370 and the FX-8370E. Both chips feature eight cores, 4.30GHz Turbo clock-rates, 8MB L2 cache, 8MB L3 cache and dual-channel DDR3 memory controllers. The FX-8370 will have thermal design power of 125W, whereas the FX-8370E will feature TDP of 95W. Both microprocessors will be priced at $199 in mass quantities.

Actually three new SKUs are being released today, all AMD FX series processors that originate from the Vishera family, these have Piledriver cores, we'll talk about that in a minute. The fastest of the chips tested is called the FX-8370 and it sports a base frequency of 4.0 GHz with a maximum Turbo frequency of 4.3 GHz, 8MB of Level 2 cache memory, and has a TDP of 125W. The FX 8370E will be fairly the same yet with a lower base clock frequencies, 3.3 GHz, this to keep the overall CPU load lower to preserve energy. Piledriver cores, these are the CPU cores inside the FX processor.  A Piledriver core basically the 2nd revision of AMD's Bulldozers cores which we all know from AMD's FX series processors. The theory behind it is simply, they should be more efficient and offer a notch more performance.
