Product Showcase - AMD Kaveri Series APU
Here you can see the AMD Kaveri APU - the A8-7650K. Pretty much as big as any other AMD APU or Phenom or even Athlon II processors you may have seen. This one has a Northbridge and a GPU merged into it though. And it makes all the difference. We can also see the laser inscription on the APU.
Desktop Kaveri processors require socket FM2+. Your old CPU cooler however remains compatible with FM2+.
We'll focus on the A8-7650K APU for this review though. It runs at 3.3 Ghz and can turbo towards 3.7 GHz configured at a 65 Watts TDP.
For this review AMD submitted the ASUS A68HM-PLUS. A Micro ATX design motherboard with plenty of features. The board has a 3+2 phase power delivery, two 8GB DIMMs running (XMP) 2133 MHz on our test setup. If you stick to the iGPU then you can make use of a HDMI, D-SUB or DVI port. We miss a Display Port connector though.
As you can see this board comes with a full x16 PCIe 3.0 slot and even a trace on the motherboard to highlight the audio circuitry. As noted you get four SATA3 (6 Gbps) ports, two USB 3.0 connectors rear ended as well as a Gigabit jack. Nice to see are the PS2 mouse/keyboard ports. The board comes with a very mature UEFI bios and the power consumption (if you use the integrated GPU) drops down to just 25 Watts. Pretty cool for a net-PC, file-server, NAS or HTPC alright. The staggering price for this motherboard is 59 EURO, with the APU at 99 EURO this is cheap as it gets guys.
