Hilbert, there are holes in the backplate but are there enough for you? 🙂 And is my memory playing tricks or did there used to be a longer time between the announcement of a new card and the release of partner cards like these?

This year its different, Nvidia releases "their" version together with partners at same time. However I won't touch any air cooled cards anymore. The benefits of AIO are simply amazing, longer life span, quiet, better overclock, stable clocks, careless gaming without having to worry about "enabling extra settings which might result in temps rising by 10c". And yet still no AIO versions announced. Do hope that MSI will come with it, as of now they haven't yet announced their 1080Ti lineup, so technically it might include AIO version ( like one i have ) right away. Fingers crossed.

I'm currently on an EVGA 980Ti Hybrid, and I'm not coming back to air either. But I'm building a Ryzen rig, selling off the current one as is, so I need a GPU ASAP. I'm 90% decided on getting the cheapest 1080Ti FE and slapping the EVGA Hybrid kit on it (with the stock blower, so just dismantling a bit and screwing on the waterblock).

fantaskarsef Faith in huma... "cough" MSI restored. Thank you fantaskarsef, i DO hope it will be announced.

@cryohellinc As long as the cpu heat is dumped outside the case (LC), aircoooling the card is enough, as long as its a custom board/cooler. And as tdp/power/ov limits are still restricted by Nv, lc it wont gain anything on oc... I didnt even see the card going over 70C when under load (1070@2ghz), same for my friends 1080..

That is not true. 1080p sure, set any modern game on maximum settings, use 1440p 16:9, 1440p 21:9, or 4k+ and suddenly temps skyrocket to 80+. No thanks. Aircooling for high resolutions is a Nein for me. P.S. Didnt even mention SLI.

Was about to pre-order that "custom FE", but then backed out. Also quick google showed amazon actually listed ZT-P10810A-10P model not ZT-P10810B-10P like mentioned here, they used this B model picture but gpu ID was default FE. :infinity:

I'm getting a Founders Edition and putting a Arctic Accelero on it. Only £50 more and very good, very quiet cooling. I dont have to wait or pay silly money.

@cryohellinc yes it is true. we both play at 1440p, he actually at 144Hz and added DSR... (res has not really anything to do with temps, but the gpu-load during gaming) and i even ran valley (card boosts constantly to 2 GHz) without temp rising. e.g., as long as the card does not hit ANY (Nv/maker implemented) limits, there will be no difference in clocks/max clocks (beside the chip lottery) between air/water as long as case temps arent affecting it. even hilbert's reviews of LC cooled cards were saying that its a waste of money. unless the cpu is air cooled (which i assume isnt the case with your rig), or you're trying to go beyond stock voltage, a WC card wont have any gains.. not even for me as a silent freak (silent for me means in-audible), as i havent seen a (non custom) gpu cooler that has 240mm rad/fans.

fry178 144fps + 144hz + 1440p + 2k OC + dsr and you dont get above 70c? Lies lies and lies again, you will be around 70-80c area or above all the time, unless you play Minesweeper. Ive been all ofer this issue many times in the past. Add 4k screen to it and second GPU, and suddenly you are near 90c.

Pre-order I have the amp extreme on pre-order. It's supposed to be here 14th April and it's costing £809:00 here in the u.k. I just assuming the clock speeds will be good as I usually buy these and they don't let me down.

May I ask if those "complains" or maybe "remarks" on the high temps above are done with auto-fan speeds?
Because if it is, thats like tuning and turbocharing your car to 1000hp and leaving the radiator stock or using an insufficient intercooler and then wondering/complaining why it doesnt perform as expected/wanted.
GPU boost 3.0 does some wonderful things to make these so called factory clocks irrelevant.

This might not be Apple sot apples comparison but I have the 980ti zotac amp extreme, playing. Either 1440p144 or 4K60 on demanding games my card normally tops out around 65~ degrees, I've never seen it reach 80 degrees ever, though maybe it has hit 70~ I don't always have afterburner on so take this with a pinch of salt. I might test it today to try it out but I've never seen it, these things have three massive fans too cool the card

You guys talking about air cooling GPUs like GTX 1070, etc, and their temperatures. Under extreme 100% GPU loads like a 40min looped Graphics Test 1 of Firestrike Extreme (sustained 200W GPU load according to HWInfo) it's difficult to keep GPU under 70 degC. At 100% fan speed for my overclocked Zotac 1070 AMP Edition in a 20 degC room I can maintain 70 degC, but on Auto Fans it goes up to 74 degC (and 80% fan speed - GPU core stabalised at end of test at 2Ghz (well 1999.5Mhz!) (was gonna attach pic just now, but forum won't let me, strange). Firestrike Extreme Graphics Test 1 is the most extreme example I've tested though, and it consumes significantly more GPU power than any of the games I play by about 10% TDP, so in actual gaming the GPU temps rarely go over 70 degC. In my case I'm quite certain that if I slapped liquid cooling on my card that I would only gain at best an additional 60Mhz of boost due to the low temperatures, but in terms of overclocking I don't think I'd be able to get more out of my GPU - it doesn't respond to increased voltage (I get same results at stock voltage). I don't think liquid cooling does that much for Pascal - except low temperatures and low noise. (with sli I can imagine liquid cooling being important though - both for noise & to deal with increased temperatures)

Its true for me...I have 2 x 980Ti Amped Extreme cards and they in SLI and have most games at 4K/60 maxed out settings and they dont usually get above 60-70C if that..and if I'm not in a game, just using my PC I cant even hear them at 35c...but I have them in a huge case with a water cooled CPU and a lot of fans. Cant wait for these 1080Tis.

Same here and I have two of them in SLI. I think people that usually complain about this temp issue are either talking about other cards or haven't had these cards in a decent case. Thats all I can think of is why they slam them. I didnt know who Zotac was but I was tired of the EVGA cards and decided to get one...and then added the second a few days later. These cards are huge too...very solid.
