so with X399 confirmed then cascade-lake-x HEDT cpus not compatible with X299 like been rumored before ? or i am missing something?

That will very much depend on intel's choice to use toothpaste between CPU and IHS. Maybe they'll go for solder this time.

Brace yourself! New Intel Chipset is coming.... Thanks to AMD, Intel is forced to sell us the good stuff too, Without them the i7 8700K was going to be only ~100Mhz boost over 7700K@4C/8T. Any news about Updated Threadrippers with 12nm? P.S- Feel sry for Intel, as soon as they gonna launch new X399 HEDT cpus, AMD will just unleash TR 24/32 Cores from Epyc line-up with the new optimizes Zen+ for better power/XFR/clock speeds LOL.

I don't think intel is going to change, even more now that the X299 chips are also with paste. Although personally i would pay extra $50 if they were to return to solder, or even release a version lets say KS that cost extra $50 for a solder, im already paying deliders that. What i do find interesting is the push of AMD, with the 2700X, i feel intel will release the 8 core, then i hope the rumors are right and we see 2800X being a 10 core for X470... forcing intel in next chipset iteration to give us a 10/12 core.

2800X being 10 core is hard to see as AMD is using 4C/8T CCXes. That would mean AMD would also have available 12C/24T chips on X470 by design. Secondly, intel's 8C/16T chip is not coming for any other purpose than to reclaim status of strongest mainstream CPU as that status now belongs to 2700X. And that's powerful marketing card. Crowd which has use for 8C/16T chips is quite small. That's mainly for content creators or those who do run virtualization or some kind of compute tasks/development.

Since most average users don't perform heavy multitasking that require full power of 8c/16t, having 2700X is rather ensuring better performance in future. It's just a smarter investment for 5-10+ years. Just like SandyBridge 2600k does now, comparing to 2500k. If I thought I gonna keep sandy bridge for 7+ years, I'd bought 2600k instead of 2500k.

You dont think they could have done a 12 core and disable 2 cores just to release the 10 core after intel releases their 8 core, and still have 12 core in hand for when intel reacts?

Can you image what CCXes would look like with 10 cores? I can't see a balance. 10 cores = ??? Threadripper: 16 cores = 4CCX * 4 12 cores = 4CCX * 4 - (1 core per CCX (4) ) 8 cores = 4CCX * 4 - (2 cores per CCX (4) ) Ryzen 8 cores = 2CCX * 4 6 cores = 2CCX * 4 - (1 core per CCX (2) ) 4 cores = 2CCX * 4 - (2 cores per CCX (2) or single fully disabled CCX)

I don't care if it has 172 cores - I don't do any video editing. I do game though so I'd be much more excited about a processor with either a higher frequency for speed, more PCIe lanes as I have a lot of cards and not enough lanes or even a 7nm fabrication as I leave my PC on all the time and at least it would use less power - hell they could just say they are going to use better thermal paste and that would be more exciting to me than more cores. Frankly this processor doesn't do much for most people unless they do video editing or zip a lot of really big files.
