I look at nVidia's premium grade (premium priced) vapor chamber cooling for GTX 1070 which happens to have 150W TDP too. And on 76°C GTX 1070 reaches (Measured by HH). And now I wonder how is this tiny thingy going to cope with same 150W. GTX 1070 is around 50% bigger GPU in size, that's 50% larger contact area to transfer heat. One has to ask if AMD's 14nm GPUs are made to run at 90°C+ or if AMD coolers are just maquettes (dummies) sprinkled with magic.

I'm thinking of getting one, but I wait for the custom version trough:) If the price range is right it's a nice budget card to have next to my FX 8350. i'm on 1080P anyway so:)

Hype intensifies.

Maybe less excess heat.

Chinese knows business. Leak photos gives AMD ideas about customers thoughts.

Well, yes 14nm GloFo is much more Power efficient than 28nm HPP. Values they provided are actually crazy better for leakage. But that's still 150W. And 1st law of thermodynamics still applies. (Simply: Energy does not cease to exist or is not made. It can only be transformed into other type/transferred to other place.) And GPUs are actually turning electricity into transistor switching and that into heat. (technically logical transistor in GPU causes micro short circuit at every state change) So even with much smaller leakage (additional waste on top of normal operation) on 14nm, what's eaten by GPU is put out as heat.

Well they still have 10 days, yet and already looks like they have more availability than the 1080. If there was a production line for the GTX 1080 i think there would be one in the picture 😛

They're treating their graphics cards like garbage.

Why? Its a production line. What would you like? Some hooter girls carrying the cards instead?

The state of the art stuff happens in the chip manufacturing. This setup ^^^ is standard. Wait till you see what goes on in some kitchens. 😛uke2:

All the money is going towards performance. (which is fine) That thing looks cheap.

We should count our selves lucky that this guy isn't part of that production line. https://i.ytimg.com/vi/2Q6_9A90cUk/hqdefault.jpg Quote of HH from main article: "You just have got to wonder who's getting fired today right?" The guy over that C47 handling space. 😀

may be a kittie lives in that box?

The max power is 150w, I imagine the GPU is closer to 125-135w, maybe even lower. That and Nvidia's premium cooler is garbage. All the AIB 1070 cooled stuff operates at like 70c or lower. I doubt AMD is going to have a problem cooling it.

RX 480 150W is its max TDP figure. Actual power consumption of the card is just over 100W and the GPU load temperature is said to be 60C which both are much lower than GTX 1070. Anyway RX 480 is not intended to compete with pricier $450 GTX 1070. http://www.tweaktown.com/news/52616/amd-radeon-rx-480-reportedly-runs-60c-under-load-draws-around-100w/index.html

It looks premium for the price. Despite RX 480 a mid range card it even includes back-lit Radeon logo just like in the Fury X which is impressive:banana:

These cards look pretty good and people complaining about cheap cooling need to look at the reference cooling for the gtx 670 that had a 170w tdp they ran ok but loud.
data/avatar/default/avatar17.webp
So these cards have no copper pipes?? It looks just like a basic copper/alu block on there... I'm sure that its probably a combination of keeping the cost down and the fact that it perhaps doesnt generate enough heat to warrant a heat pipe cooler but still, it would have been nice to see one. People are going to push the nutz out of these cards on day one so a better cooler would have been nice to see. Just my option though

^ they will get better coolers with time just like any other new gpu release just like Nvidia with founders edition it'll take a bit for custom cards.
