Auto HDR is already available on the Insider builds of Windows 10 and It is amazing!
For instance in AC Valhalla, the native HDR on windows 10 is not quite good, it is wrongly mastered, it is dark and dull and Ubisoft still haven't fixed it. There are several questions about this problem on their forums for Ubisoft's games.
But, by turning off HDR in AC Valhalla and then letting Windows auto HDR kick in instead, the difference in the image quality and brightness are much better than Ubisoft's natively supported HDR in this game.
This also goes for most of the Auto HDR-supported games from Ubisoft. I also tried with that werewolf game, it works well. But some games are still lacking support. Also, most games from the MS store/gamepass also work with Auto HDR. I am confident that more and more games will be supported. Currently and according to MS, there are about 1000 games that are already supported by the latest insider developer builds, but I don't find any verified list from MS yet. So I just tested a couple of them and most of them work fine, others such as biomutant and Crash 4, don't support it yet. But this will change for sure very soon!

DirectStorage will need some hardware requirements. The motherboards that have Smart Access Memory/BAR supported are good. I would plan on upgrading to a supported PCIe 4.0 motherboard as it even doubles the bandwidth. I think ASUS need to jump on board with bios updates, for everyone else already support BAR.

Does auto hdr even works if you have crappy hdr monitor? Should not make any difference whatsoever.

Seems to me DirectStorage largely obsoletes the need of those GPUs with on-card storage. I could see this being a pretty big deal for improving load times.

Well i said few days earlier that directx 13 exclusive to win11 was confirmed ... Kinda but seems that ms have direct storage as a carrot dangling front of our faces 😛 , also what bothers me is that it requires an ms acount to install ! It might be surprising but i have none ! I guess i will have to make one just for the setup and never use it again....

If you use Pro or Enterprise then you can do a domain install and buy pass the whole Microsoft Account crap all together. Have never had a account and never will. If you go will a lower level then you are under Microsoft's boot with their account; it will be tied into everything you do in windows. And the telemetry (spyware) in 11 is far more extensive than 10. I will not be installing 11 until direct storage is live as I do not enjoy reinstalling windows a week or month after I just did it when they decide to unlock a key feature.

Yep--I'm using Win10 AutoHDR right now, Win10 build 21390.2025, and it works fairly well, although I don't much use it because the SDR wide color gamut is so good with my newest monitor. The people with older hardware have another ~3.5 years at least with Win10.
For all intents and purposes, W11 = W10. But as Microsoft has decided to up some of the baseline minimum requirements in Windows, they thought "W11" would be much less confusing than wrangling with several Win10 builds, some of which require the new baselines, and some of which do not...;) Yes, that would have been a royal mess!
BTW, a Microsoft account is the ticket if you have a retail version of Win10 as it's very simple and quick to reactivate the lifetime (of the user!) licensing via a Microsoft account. In the last 5+ years with Win10 I have changed motherboards ~4 times, I think, and CPUs 3 times, and each time it was very easy to reactivate my retail license for the new hardware. I used to be leery of the Microsoft account, myself, but when I saw how it actually worked I went to it and have stayed with it ever since. Last time I looked you can host 10 devices under the same Microsoft account.

Auto HDR only matters on OLED\QLED with contrast zones, which most monitors dont have.
If you have a nice contrast ratio monitor like a GOOD VA panel (VAs hit about 6000:1), you can essentially mimic the effect of HDR (non contrast zone HDR) with digital vibrancy and slightly messing around with your contrast\brightness.
I have 2 TVs one OLED and one non, both support HDR, The OLED is in another world. The non-oled and VA panel? I wanna say the only difference is the TV a slight clarity increase because the tv is reflective and the monitor is matte.

Which PCI-E 4.0 ASUS motherboards doesn't have BAR support? My ASUS X570 board supports it just fine.
