Sorry for my noobness. I hava z97 asu maximus and run one gtx1080 pci e 3.0 x16. Will the pci e ssd take from the lanes of the gpu? I don't want fast ssd and reduced gpu perf! Even if 2 or 3%

This will definitely be better than Intel's 600p M.2's which theoretically state 1500MB/s read and 500MB/s write but performed much worst than a traditional sata ssd, false advertising at best. I returned mine, a 512gb ver. and got my money back. Western Digital x SanDisk underneath? I choose you!

The 512GB one looks interesting indeed. Jolly good that more and more competitors keep appearing. Samsung kept prices high long enough when there were no other offerings.

Very happy with my 960 evo even though I cant use its full speed. The improvements on 4k random makes a difference. I think its more or less the same price as this.

It depends on the motherboard i think. It might take some stuff away from something else, but it will be mentioned in the manual. Also, it won't be from the main PCIe slot for sure. My Z170 motherboard will take away specific SATA port if i use the M.2 socket. Most probably those lanes that it uses were reserved for the second SATA controller chip. So it takes those and binds them to them M2 if it's in PCIe 4x mode.

Are you sure about that? Granted, I have a different mobo from a different manufacturer, but my manual says that if the M.2 is in sata mode, it disables the first sata port. That's it. It doesn't say anything about disabling sata ports if it's in NVMe mode. I'd have imagined that to be the same for all Z170 boards.
