Even though it says for PC and Xbox ONE I don't see a reason why I couldn't rip it out of the case and fit it into my PS4. But i do understand that obviously having a plug & play storage drive is a bit more beneficial than doing the above 🙂.

Interesting enough, Western Digital's website makes no mention of the drive's speed or specs--this could very well be yet another average consumer product with the 'Gaming' label slapped on it and a premium price tag. Given the drive is 5400RPM, there's no reason why I can't use my run of the mill USB 3.0 external drive that I got for $40 less. And from that standpoint--there's nothing stopping me from throwing in a 7200RPM drive, or even an SSHD, into a USB 3.0 external enclosure and calling it a day.
Consumers are stupid, and 'snake-oil' has become that much more sophisticated.

At first I was quite interested in the product, especially with that case to match my x1. However, after reading the wd website product promo they were boating about reliability and put up a giant badge claiming a 1 year warranty as if that was somehow...sufficient, or even good.

X1 already has 500gb.... just put a 256gb SSD in there like I did & enjoy the load times. 756gb is more than enough for game titles.
I have all the best games and I'm still only at 45% used space.

Considering the fact that this device has a 1 year warranty, the drive inside is more than likely a WD Blue and is low-speed, low-quality, and not something i'd buy. WD makes outstanding drives as long as they are from the Black or RE product lines, and the 5 year warranty on them shows their confidence in their product. I've got two 74gb raptor's and a 250gb Black drive in a media server that have been running 24/7 since I bought them when they first hit the market in I believe 2004. So yea... 11+ years and they still run perfectly.

Nice looking, but with USB 3.1 basically here, I wouldn't consider any USB 3.0 storage at this time. The performance of USB 3.1 is too great. Might as well wait 90-days or so. The Xbox is locked at USB 3.0 so can't hurt there.

From my experience Passports are good drives, i have one an old 500GB Studio like 5 years now (USB 2 + Firewire) and it runs just fine. So even if its just a regular external drive, its a good one. If i finaly upgrade my rig, i will definitely buy another Passport, even if not this one.
