I envision a future with OLED screens high resolutions high refresh rates and displayport 1.4. NOW MAKE IT A REALITY ALREADY! So done with Lcd.

...That's a big K right there.

Exaclty my thoughts. Id be happy with 8k OLED @ 60 fps. Well really a 5k OLED @ 60fps 21:9 is more what I dream off.

So I wonder how long before we start seeing 120Hz UHD/4k monitors. OLED and IPS I mean, with 5ms or below response rate. :bang:

4k 120hz......."120fps" PC lingo! I'm sold! DP 1.4 is the new standard for a part of the DeskStars upgrade.

When someone writes: "8Kp60Hz HDR deep color and 4Kp120Hz HDR" I actually read: 1080p @480Hz

All these ridiculous new standards gives me a headache, but I'm glad our technology is moving forward...

I don't think i've ever seen an actual DP 1.3 cable...

It's not moving forward fast enough, Both AMD and Nvidia currently have display port 1.2 on the latest cards and our 4k monitor is limited by it. My 4k panel could push 85hz if it wasn't for the adapter technology but sadly 60hz is all i get. If only our connectors were far ahead of our screens, it's just ridiculous.

Cool, the higher the resolution the better. With an 8k monitor, you could run it sort of like a CRT, where you can display any resolution without noticeable scaling artifacts. I've never seen a 4k monitor in person, but I image if you sent, for example a 1440p signal to it, I imagine you could still notice some weird blurriness from the scaling. 8k would be a lot better.

I don't think the cable specification has changed since 1.0

Nice. now true 10-bit R10G10B10 - or better - @ 120Hz please. I repat myself: R10G10B10 or better... R11-G11-B10 anyone? , not that crap called YCbCr. Yes I want absolute color space only, I am tired of compromises.

and here i am still using dvi and 1080p, GPU need to catch up to all this in terms of actual feeding that res with acceptable framerates

4K @120Hz .... not a real thing until VOLTA

If I had good reason to use several resolution. I would rather opt for several screens with those resolutions as native for each. And it would still be magnitude cheaper than 8K anything.

The next-next-next generation of GPU's should sport 1.4 so it's about right 😀

You said it. SLI is not an option unless under water so... I personally wont touch 4K until I got a GPU that can fully power it without having to compromise in graphical settings.

I don't really think Volta will do it either on max settings the year it is released properly. 😀 When we start to use 8k we will see 4k @ 120hz. Kind of like some people can play that 1440p/1080p @ 120hz... It is sort of an never ending struggle to get there since games will come up with new things to eat the performance.

Its important to note that 8K@60 support requires use of a compression which slightly degrades image quality. I would personally not want that.

Uhm.. everyone is happy for 4K@120hz screens.. Anyone for a second thought.. OH ****.. 2nd/3rd Gen VR @4K + 120hz.. Think about it for a moment. DX12/Vulkan + 4K + 120Hz = Perfect VR experience. so you need 1 DP 1.4 + 1 USB3.1 = GG AMD is quick to adapt, may see 1.4 sooner than later from AMD while nVidia will be sticking to HDMI 2.0
