Is this a joke? Do you know it's actually very unhealthy when you have loud sound coming into one hear for prolonged periods of time? There are open-ear headphones for a reason.

Yes, because they produce higher quality sound in same price range as closed ones at cost of outing that sound to surroundings. But I do agree that having just one ear bashed with game sound is bad idea. And on top of that there are not really that many games where stereo sound does not matter for orientation, insight.
