So basically phone numbers that have already been linked to steam accounts that have been banned for cheating or nefarious acts on steam, will also be banned from being used to make new account or used on other accounts. I am fine with this, you cheat you pay the price....although i assume the cheaters will just go out and buy a new disposable cheap mobile and continue to cheat online, but at least it makes it more inconvenient than simply making a new account to start cheating again.
Just £1 sim card, is all they need.

No it's not just the new SIM card: you need to buy new CS:GO Steam key (atm $15/€14 on Steam), open new e-mail account needed for new Steam account, open new Steam Account, tie that Steam account to that free or whatever mobile phone number... Cheaters are the ones who would need to go through all that hassle every few days just to enjoy while using cheats in CS:GO (and hope much more games in the future) and I'm more than fine with that. It's gonna cost them time and money and I don't see why not to rip off those bastards if they aren't willing to play fair. Tbh, I'm an old school player who hates cheaters from the bottom of my soul, my friends and clan mates from old days are well aware of that fact, my kids also. Long time ago I've told my kids if I ever catch them using game trainers, hacks, cheats or any kind of help that would give them advantage while playing SP or MP (even small dots made with markers in the center of the screen while playing FPS titles) they can expect me walking in the room in next few minutes with the hammer and few seconds later that poor gaming rig is gonna became a history. Just play fair or gtfo!!! I know, it's a bit extreme way to teach them what's fair play, but as a parent for past almost 15 years I know that's gonna teach them to play fair not just in the virtual world but in real life also: sports, school and eventualy one day on their jobs and when they have their own family with their own kids. If parent are/were more aware of the facts how their children are gaming these days I'm sure there would be much less cheaters atm, but fact is that most parents doesn't gife a f*ck what their children are doing in front of the computers. Sad but true and this trend continues and it's gonna be even worse in few years from now... My two cents...

My Dad caught me using one of the power pins from a mains plug as a fuse in another mains plug once, he told me if he caught me doing that again, he'd take all the plugs off every single electrical device I owned I never did it again I used speaker wire instead 😀

Just saying, buying a new key won't stop cheaters, why do you think it's still one of the best selling games on steam, in the top 10 EVERY TIME? It's not about the trouble of creating a new steam account and a new key, and certainly not the trouble to get the sim. But to be honest, as long as the people that are effected (CSGO players here) are fine with being treated that way, who am I to not agree? 😉

What stupid idea is this? And if I don't bind my phone number to my account? 🙄
Then you don't play. Quite simple. This is a good start and I have presented this idea to them for years. Except I wouldn't use a phone number, but credit card information instead. Phone numbers are way too easy to get from the nearest kiosk.

And what happen if they have an old account that is NOT link to phone number if they cheat??? 🙂 lol My account is still valid (i play a bit to Snow on steam) but not linked so i guess some cheater are in the same situation, am i right?

Ya...you do.

Yeap, i am scratching my head at this one from some, reguardless of how easy it is to circumvent, it does put another obstacle for the cheaters to have to jump through to continue cheating, whereas normal players remain unaffected, as it should be. But yeah, i would love to see this on all steam games, anything that makes the cheaters more pissed off is a win. ha

are you a cheater by any chance? not sure why are you upset about adding phone to your account, you know that's been part of steam's security layers for years. is this some kind of news to you or.... ? valve now is just using this phone information, very cleverly i must say, against filthy cheaters.

A long time ago... In CS 1.6, I got a ban from an admin for the following situation. I was behind a box camping (de_train as CT), like every good noob. Flashbang in my face, I didn't see anything, but I heard Ts are running towards me (they didn't even try to walk), so when they were really close, I started to shoot and killed two of them. Instant ban. But I guess nowadays, I would get a VAC ban and should buy a new SIM for a similar move. Fortunately, I don't play competitive games anymore.

lol About two years ago my younger son downloaded for somewhere some kind of mod for Minecraft called XRay or something, but he didn't installed it yet. He asked me if he can used it so I had to ask my older son what that XRay mod is doing in Minecraft. After older son explained to me what kind of advantage my younger kiddie can get over the other players while playing Minecraft online my younger son ended up with my old thrusty 25 years old serial mouse with ball (for younger generations here: without optical/laser sensor) who doesn't even has an scroll wheel (also with just two mouse buttons, lol). After using that mouse for 2 days (just imagine horror while playing CS:CO or any other game with such a horrible "precise" mouse, not to talk about opening the mouse to clean all three rollers every hour or so) younger kiddie appologize to me and after that I've gave him his gaming mouse. That teached him a lesson for sure. For such special occasions I'm still keeping my old PC equipement somewhere in the basement 😀

Most of us here who ever played some game in MP are well aware of the fact that nothing is going to stop dedicated cheaters to find the way to cheat in their favorite games and ruin the experience for players who are trying to play fair. But after this Valve's decision if cheaters are going to spend more time (and probably more money) to get new SIM/Account/Game it's fine with me and guess every other player who plays fair will thumb up on this Valve's decision. My older son had a few arranged clan matches yesterday evening with few other clans, they were talking about this Valve's decision on new VAC policy via Team Speak and not a single member from his clan or any other clan found that Valve's decision offensive. Also, many cheaters in CS:GO have multiple Steam accounts tied to one mobile phone number: while playing CS:GO with cheats if one of their Steam account gets banned by VAC every other Steam account with CS:GO game tied to that mobile phone number will be banned too.

lol 😀 definitely a good punishment, I remember those horrible mice very well, and if they were in a school or library, the ball was usually missing and you had to move the cursor with the rollers And trying to clean the rollers with flattened sticky crap all over them was horrible 😀

Can't find that first one ball mouse I was talking about, guess kids hidden somewhere lol, but no problem, have them more than enough, here is the other one, this one is more "advanced": it has 3 buttons 😀
http://s32.postimg.org/a2o9m0b39/P_20160503_173333.jpg
Nope, his gaming rig has an Asus Maximus IV Gene-Z/GEN 3 mobo, it doesn't even has an onboard RS232 feature connector so that I could use RS232 bracket cable to connect that serial mouse, because lack of serial connector my kiddie could dodge the bullet, but... Still have one USB to Serial adapter we had used before with fiscal cash register. This old junk thingies can be quite useful over the years, I never throw things like that, now I know why 😀

This sounds very sketchy.

lol, maybe sometimes, I like discipline, but on the other hand three of my kids should consider themselves lucky, not many of their friends have such a crazy dad (just hope that I'm their real dad, lol). Some two years ago, maybe a bit less, one of school friends of my twins (boy + girl) came over the weekend to our house to play with them ouside. Few hours later exhausted they went inside the house and that kid was (at least) shocked with amount of gaming tech my twins have in their room, guess it was nothing more than a gaming heaven for him, but for my kids it was quite "normal", guess they thought every other kid has something like that: his own gaming PC + HTPC + tablet (all mentioned x3 kids)... I felt sorry for that kid, in one way guilty, damn wish I had a unused PC atm so I could give it to him 🙁 Epilogue of that visit: day or two later mother of that kid told to my wife over the phone that she was shocked when her son (after he came home after the visit to my kids) told her that he wish ME for a dad (!?). I loled on that (not that I don't have "ability to accomplish" that :eyebrows:), few seconds later I felt like a sh*t because of that kid. Since then I'm not pleased when new kids came around to my kids and went straight away to their room to play, if weather is fine I like to push them outside to play in the backyard with dog, cat etc, at least it's healthier for them and I don't risk to get myself into "proud -> embarrassment -> feel like sh*t" situations. Hmmm... wonder how that mom above looked like 😀

Sim cards are free, so it's easy to have more than one number. Also wonder if this is why Valve is refusing to delete my number and replace it with the new one.
depends on the region you live area/region with contract system(majority) will not easy buy/get simcards but area with prepaid, can get new simcard easily eitherway, even if cheap, do u think its worthed to get new simcard+buy the game again just for cheating again? which probably sooner or later get banned again

Cheaters are getting CS:GO from 3rd party for $6, maybe even less. If they get some valuable items before they get banned...
