Deal should give AMD $1B in total over 2015~2018. In comparison to PS4 it seems to be either smaller chip or much smaller number of devices made. My guess is for bigger chip and lower amount of devices.

WiiU backward compatibility will be appreciated. And no PAL/NTSC non-sense.

I've been saying this for a while now. For people with good cash who want luxury systems, there's Intel. For everyone else, there's AMD. I'm hesitant to recommend their CPUs to people outside of the right circumstances (I have an FX-8350 myself and am very happy with it, but I also know why I have it). But their APUs are fantastic. Cost-effective and easily meeting the "Good Enough" crowd. Businesses don't want "the best", they want "the most profitable". That's why XB1 and PS4 contain what they do rather than a core i7 and a high-end graphics card. AMD know what they're doing.

NES means "Nintendo Entertainment System"......so, technically, it applies to every Nintendo model.....

as it seems in the near future there will not be a console not run by AMD
That's right now, well, excluding just the wii u's cpu.

What's interesting is after having read a few articles on this rumor from various sources, people are upset saying Nintendo is abandoning the Wii U. I don't know about the lot of people, but having owned the original Wii and now the Wii U, I have pretty much given up on buying new games for it. It's all fun and exciting waiting on a game for the kids, until it finally releases and my kids are now 2 years older and no longer interested in said game. don't get me wrong, we absolutely enjoy the Nintendo exclusive games from Nintendo themselves, but they are far and few between and to me it's not worth continuing to invest in a platform that mostly collects dust because of how sub par it does everything else. We have an Xbox One and can watch Bluerays, have our cable hooked up through it and do all these things without having to switch inputs or power the console off. I really hope Nintendo hurries up with this console and releases it before the likes of Microsoft and Sony are ready to release their next console and once again Nintendo is already outdated when coming to the table. I am personally excited about a new Nintendo and can't wait, here's to hoping they use high end components instead of the budget stuff that's already on the market.

tbh gamecube was 4 years. Snes was 4 years in europe. And Wii U seems to be 4 years cause I do not believe this to come out in 2015 but late 2016 if anything.

Which chip is that in the article? The one in the photo.

This would help them alot developers would easily be able to port to their console this way, It should help sales as i think thats whats hurting them right now they have cool exclusive but too few to compete.

No. The company's name is Nintendo. Nintendo Entertainment System is a product name. By Your thinking you could say Game Boy Color about all Nintendo handhelds since GBC. Seriously guys, you should rename the story, when I saw title I thought they're making " HD super remaster edition" of original NES or something.:)

Please Nintendo region free. I hope that is not just a modernized NES but a console that is an HD console like the Wii-U with alot more horse power than the Xbox-one and PS4. Maybe a 4k Console if 4k is possible by then. Also Nintendo AMD CPU and not just GPU it would help you immensely with the developers.

I'm assuming the PPC with the gpu layered in the Wii U.

So they are going the X86 route? If so, they might lose the backward compatibility at the hardware level. The picture shows the current Wii U chip (IBM CPU & AMD GPU).

^ even if they lost backward compatibility the wii/wiiU is so weak they will probably be able to emulate it by then, i know u can already easily emulate the wii and the wiiU isnt much more.

Don't be too sure about that. Wii U has a triple core CPU that's clocked almost twice as high as the Wii's. If backwards compatibility really is important though, Nintendo could add the Wii U's CPU. Would undeniably increase the cost though.

I built my parents a 5800k APU based AMD HTPC system a few years ago and I have to say that what AMD is doing is amazing... basic pc abilities with excellent home theater and gaming capabilities. A budget priced processor that overclocks well with gpu power is exactly what we need in the US market, not the super powered Intel cpu's with embarassing on-chip or onboard graphics. When I come to visit my parental pad I'm able to log onto Steam and the grand kids etc. can all enjoy some gaming on a 360 controller with most games at 1080 or 720p, you can't beat the utility of AMD's APU's. On a side note, Nintendo would have a massive win financially if the next system was built into an NES case with actual modern pc hardware. This isn't going to happen ever, but it's a nice idea.

Topic name is so Misleading and wrong. NES is a very old system with cartridges. And name is "Upcoming Nintendo Nintendo Entertainment System". Makes no sense right? It should be: "Upcoming Nintedo Gaming System", or "Upcoming Nintedo Console" or something like that. Merry Christmas to y'all =))
