I've owned a Plextor 240GB for over 8 years as my system drive , it's been hammered every day but still working great. One of the best buys i ever made 🙂 that plus my 2600K 😉

Everybody who bought an SSD for the first time back in the day would say it's among their best PC hardware buys, I reckon, unless they suffere a catastrophe. It's almost ridiculous how big a difference it made coming from the traditional spinning HDD. I know I was smiling when I booted my previous computer from an SSD for the first time.

The first time i booted on my punny 120 gb intel 330 ssd .....my grin was bigger than the joker's!

Well... except those who had issues with data loss from SSDs containing Sandforce controllers. And the enterprise SSDs that would lose data if left unused for a few months. Otherwise yeah, SSDs made just about every PC better.

My 1st Kingston died 2 times (RMA) 😀 (It was corrupting partition table beyond recovery and had to be "reformated". So, technically it was not dead, just killing data.) Still worth it since I had data on 2nd HDD and externals.

I've had a truly kickass Kingston USB 3 flashdrive for a long time, back from when USB 3 wasn't yet super commonplace (you needed a separate chip on the mobo for it). It was an expensive thing, but the speed is still pretty respectable even today. However, I never considered Kingston SSDs because their cheaper models always had a questionable reputation, and I wasn't sure if the better models were truly better.

Since you go "first" SSD why don't you for a more reputable source, like Samsung. My first was Samsung 840 ( never, not even remotely broke ), then 850 and now 860. Couldn't be happier.

If you were referring to me. Then my reply was to 1st SSDs back in the days of SATA2. When SSDs were made in capacities from 32 to 256GB. And that 128GB drive I bought did cost $250 and everything inside was made by Toshiba. Samsung 840 drive you refer to as your first, is like new kid on the block trying to look cool on SATA3 and TLC thinking that it will impress old dogs. While it missed all the action to be actually cool. In other words, conversation above is about 1st consumer SSDs before TLC even existed.

That was about 4 years after some of the first consumer SSD's hit the scene. By 2012 when the Samsung 840 came out, much was improved by all the major players.
