Delete all the RTOS software on board and, pretty much, the car will be worthless; with as much safety as a child with a grenade.

Script kiddies gonna pretend they "hacked" a car by showing really complex code and their sandbox. Amusement.

You clearly have no idea what actually goes on at these events.

Any company submitting their stuff for penetration testing like this must be commended.... If they get with their pants down then we can laugh. But still its the right attitude.

The idea is pretty fine, not because i like Tesla's car but because when you brainstorming on your own team sometime you can't see major fail that is just in front of your nose. The failling has permited to BMW and Jaguar to improve (while the VW group is still ultra weak). And running a keyless car is stll a 2 min operation to make a pass false copy...

Pwn2Own? Gather bugs on internet and publish them? Whatever. Enjoy.

I'm skeptical as to whether this is actually a good idea. In one perspective, it's nice because it shows they care about optimizing security and I assume they'll actually patch whatever the discoverer finds. In another perspective, if some random nerd manages to hack into the car in a meaningful way during a single event, that doesn't leave a great impression on their security. There are already people afraid of Tesla's technology - the last thing they need is someone else to make another excuse as to why they shouldn't trust them.

It's a show. They won't find more than they should. Really bad exploits are not going public and hold, hopefully by people who wear white hats. I don't know why I am so negative about this show off. Probably naming and few youtube videos of it.
