It seems that the gods are in favor of AMD with this one!

How? AMD has a number of contracts with TSMC including their current GPU lineup and part of Polaris.

Well, specifically because amd is pushing its next-generation of line up outside tsmc.

we know that the small Polaris GPU that RTG previewed will be produced by GlobalFoundries on their 14nm process, meanwhile it remains to be seen how the rest of RTG’s Polaris GPUs will be split between the fabs.
It seems you were right denial, this is bad for amd too.

I do sincerely feel bad for the Taiwanese people, but seriously - this is why you don't put all your eggs in 1 basket. It's mind boggling to me why almost every single computer-based semiconductor producer resides in a single country notorious for it's natural disasters. I remember a few years ago hearing how both Seagate and Western Digital had their main manufacturing plants (I'm pretty sure also in Taiwan) flooded, and was pretty serious considering they were pretty much the main source of hard drives.

It's not a problem since they just pass on the cost to the end user. It isn't a risk to them. They still get cheap manufacturing with little governmental oversight or human rights interest and pass on the cost to you. Welcome to the global economy run by the 1%.

The cost of the repairs are passed down to the end user. But time is money, and when the one and only location that can manufacture your product has serious downtime due to an earthquake, there that is a loss to your company as well as your customers.

When your competitor depends on a component from the same place? The customers don't really face a loss, it's not like they are forced to buy anything.

First point is fair (though, TSMC does have competitors), second point, not so true. Something many people in these forums tend to forget are enterprise-level hardware and demands. Consumer-level products aren't the breadwinners for companies like Intel.

I am absolutely sure the flood occurred in Thailand not Taiwan. I remember because I was affected. I urgently purchased a WD Black 1TB HDD as a replacement at a very high premium back then.:bang:

116 dead, buildings and infrastructure damaged or destroyed. And people wonder when their chips are available to let them buy new graphics cards. Thumbs up guys, first world problems.

Sad any country's residents consider voting for him, and even sadder if he wins. But geography isn't needed to command his generals to bomb some country 😉
