I was just talking about tablets yesterday, I've got a droid and a Win 10 tab, and rarely use either of them

We have Phones with big screen (5inch) and desktops with 24-27-34inch screen. Why we need a tablet?

I think everyone has one or more tablets at this stage.

on other hand why buy tablet when there is free one everywhere (2 pack of beer = 1 free tablet... etc etc, by the way where is the link beween tablet and beer? once you have drink the beer the tablet will be useless as the manual is in chinese, korean and japanese :stewpid:). there is a tablet overdose 😛uke2: 99% of the sold tablet have the power of a 1st price smartphone and the volume that doesn't enter in your bag... then you go with your more powerfull smartphone and let the tablet at home (nice bibelot that catch dust)

It is as I wrote long time ago. People gave android initial boost with high hopes for new very versatile platform. So many years later, there are no good productivity applications for every branch of interest. Users can't get super user without voiding part or entire warranty. Most of android market games are trash with in game paid features/p2w mechanics. And because of this, android is not even good gaming platform. It became platform without identity. And while table market grew fast, manufacturers overshoot expectations. And you can still buy 3~4 years old, nearly obsolete products in shops. (Yes, at low price. But anyone who touches those will be so disappointed that he will think twice before obtaining another one.) Android is severely hurt even by flashplayer. Intel + windows based tablets have its place, it was very small place compared to android tablets. And I think this small place will grow a bit in future. Because people will want those productivity applications. And performance of mobile chips is getting better every year. I have played Baldur's Gate on android, but I did not have nerves for control method, since android does not have advanced mouse control. Even cheap windows tablet can play that or Good Old Fallout. Or any other great older game. (And btw, judging from surge of very old games on steam, I guess, they are becoming popular somehow.)

Never owned a tablet myself. Not something I would use as I own a phone and a Laptop.

I have 2 tablets and android tablet that I gave to my dad and a Windows 8.1 pro tablet that I used to use for portable gaming but since I got my Dell precision m4600 laptop I had no need to use my tablets at all. Besides my laptop can do the same thing as my tablets as far as netflix and the WWE network and Youtube go plus a lot more stuff.

I've got a tablet but it's fallen far behind in use now, used to use it for watching videos, but the lack of usb 3 like my phone has means I can usually never be bothered to wait for the videos to copy over. That and my phone is way faster

because they are gimmicks. As a PC enthusiast since 1990's, i've never considered getting a tablet, and have tested many from friends and relatives. It's just a clunky, fragile device, whose novelty of touch screen controls wears of, leaving you with an oversized phone, and an under capable laptop.

As others have said, for me it is a borderline somewhat useful device that sits between a smartphone and a laptop and has some charm, and that´s about it. Still it´s nice to watch porn in it because i can grab it with just my left hand and parkinson my little friend with the right hand. And no i´m not trying to be funny, that´s my reality and i´ll be damned if i stop doing it. Plus i watch harware related videos on youtube.. I don´t find it a necessity and that sums it up for me.

I never owned a tablet, my desktop and Windows Nokia 1320 phone "phablet" is more than enough for me.

Its because people have finally caught on that the price for a tablet is insanely high. For a decent tablet that will still only do about 1/2 of what you need/want it to do its going to cost around $4-800.

I've entertained the thought of getting a waterproof tablet so I can surf the web, read or watch videos/TV while in the bathtub, the pool or lakeside, but those things seem to be really expensive. And I don't like touchscreens, I can't even stand them on my phone.

What has not been mentioned is that even Google itself is not backing Android as it used to. Google is putting its efforts in other projects like self driving automobiles and internet availability to remote places. Android saw its peak and is now in decline. Google has become a faceless entity. Like the shock jocks of old, the Madonna of its time, all it had going for it was constant marketing hype; no real substance. Who would have thought that a company that was in the business of generating marketing revenue streams knew how to market ice to Inuits.

I got 12.2" Pro tablet which I can use to draw. It has no other function but to be a really expensive paper. Not getting another one. And never getting high end phone again either utterly pointless.

Mi Pad was one of the most powerful tablets in the market, may be still is, and currently it's less than $300. I wanted to buy the Mi Pad and waited for the price to drop. Now the price has dropped but my interest already lost. I bought a Chinese tablet for my 3 years old son with mt6592 chipset (octa core) for less than $75, and it performs way a lot better than his previous tablet, a $200 Samsung Tab 3 lite. With only $75, I got better cpu+gpu, screen resolution, and battery life.

What are you talking about? They just revamped the entire UI and launched a completely new design language 10 months ago. They are launching the Pixel C in a a few months and finally adding multi-window/better multitasking plus Android M. They are launching all kinds of low cost devices in a effort to capture 3rd world sales and plan on doubling the number of android devices over the next year. That internet avaliablity is directly related to Android sales. Where is this decline you speak of? Everything else you're talking about is the reason why they restructured under Alphabet in the first place.

The market has peaked it's growth rate attrition, that's all. Comparing the usefulness of a tablet versus something else is pointless when people own the other devices. If you own nothing, then the desirability of tablet ownership when at home instead of having a dedicated piece of hardware that takes up an entire room of the house (desktop) when all you want to do is surf when on the couch, it's no comparison at all and the tablet twins every time. Remember, the first word in tablet is table, where it sits quite happily, being no bigger than a magazine.

I all the time wondered for what one could use those things. Apparently many people did the same as myself 😀
