Those expenses have surely gone down for sure, on the other hand there are platform fees to pay (Steam cut is 30%) and, AFAIK, developing design assets for AAA games has become more and more time consuming over the years. All in all, videogames offer great value for their price compared to most other hobbies, as long as you don't buy on day 1 and only play 2 hours.

When you factor inflation while comparing historical prices, video games have never been cheaper even though the costs to create games have skyrocketed.

I think this must include micro-transactions too. It is the only way I can see CS:GO still being on this list and not having hit some sort of saturation point.
