8. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
People, please stop preordering games.. Nothing good ever comes out of it. I understand the temptation, I'm a huge ****ing DX fanboy but just don't.

Why? You can always get a refund...

You're giving the developers money for a product that is not finished yet. While this doesn't sound particularly bad at first glance, you're reinforcing a trend where hype is more important than a polished product. Refunds help against this, yes, but it encourages big post-release patches, which again isn't a good thing. The studio sees the refunds going through and starts working on the game again. IF the refunds come through. In many cases the game isn't broken enough to receive massive amounts of refunds, but still broken when it could've been better. When I buy a game at launch day I expect it to be complete and not download a huge patch the next day. Examples are No Man's Sky, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5, Watch_dogs, AC:U and dozens of others especially coming from Ubisoft. I ain't saying Square Enix in particular are scummy devs, far from it actually. They've released good and finished games but I wouldn't give them money on the 'promise' of a good game. Even if chances are that Deus Ex will be pretty damn good.

Normally I'd agree with you 100%. Hell the last time I bought a brand new game was Mass Effect 3. But Deus Ex is probably the one game this year that is on my must play list and I trust Eidos Montreal enough to not f*$k it up spectacularly so I'm willing to hand over my money a week before the game releases.

Even though I understand your point, I don't buy many games on release, but the ones I do, I tend to preorder. And as it happens pretty much every game I preordered ended up as a game that I really liked and played a lot. I have to yet ask for a refund. I preorderd the Collector's Edition of DX:HR and I finished it like 5-6 times. I get your way of thinking, and it applies to many games out there (from the games you listed for example, I only got those when they were on sale, 1 year after release - my rule with Ubisoft games, with Division being an exception. No Man's Sky was a fail for me from the first video I saw of it, so this release was simply a confirmation), but in the DX I simply have a good feeling based on past experience and what I've seen so far from the upcoming game.

Nothing wrong with preorders or day 1 patches.

Are you? You're painting every developer with the same brush assuming that because Warner Brothers did it with Arkham and Ubisoft does it with every game they release that it is something that ever developer does. Pre orders are nothing I was preordering games from a game shop two and a half decades ago and I can tell you right here and right now pre ordering games today is miles better than it ever was. In the past the game you got was the game you got, no day one patches, in fact no patches at all. If the game was trash then it was never going to get better end of on top of that most retailers would not allow you to refund the game if you had opened the box. So right off the bat you have not only the chance now that your game will get improvements (and in most cases quite quickly) you also have the chance to refund the game if it is well and truly broken. You can also add that with the internet you also have access to a soapbox from which you can tell the world just how good or bad the game is and if events of late have proven this is a soap box that a lot of developers have no choice but to listen too. Pre order away folks, believe me you don't get much better than you do currently.

I got Batman AK and the season pass all for under £10 after the backlash, so everybody keep pre-ordering and buying before the reviews are out, i love me a good bargain. :P:D

4chan has been going after this game hard and have been doing a lot of review bombing. I've been having a total blast in it, nearly 30 hours in...

That's fair enough, maybe it's wrong that I don't discriminate and treat all devs alike. But I'd rather be safe than sorry. As I said, I'm hyped about the game myself.

I didn't understand the essence of your post because you're contradicting yourself. On one hand, no, I do not discriminate as I've just replied to another user and considering Ubisoft's tendencies towards bad releases I'm sure you can understand why. In fact you even gave WB and Ubisoft as an example. But then you're actively encouraging preorders just because you can get a refund and a day 1 patch? Sorry, but I just don't agree with that. Why not refrain from preordering and be more likely to get a polished game at launch? You asked why wouldn't one preorder. I ask you why would one preorder? As you said, we live in an era where the Internet makes transfers very easy; there's no limitation - no risk of the game not being in stock. Why would I preorder in light of this? Preordering basically gives me no advantage, not in the case of DXMD where you get all the bonus content if you purchase on launch day. Even if I didn't get all the content, we all know bonus content has a tendency of being entirely not required. And as much as you say preorders are a good thing, do keep in mind that it was Square Enix that allowed bonus content on number if preorders; aka if x people preordered they'd get y bonuses. If it weren't for the vocal community, that would have went on as planned. They wanted to make a quick buck on an unfinished product and they were bashed for it. Or do you think that's okay as well?

At least something good comes out of it after all hahah.
