Steam has surpassed 14 million concurrent users. The milestone was hit early January 7 and peaked at 14,207,039, according to Steam's stats page and yesterday they even passed 14.3 Million.... Steam passes 14 million on-line users
How about logged in mobile apps? Do they count too? They have been pushing two-step auth heavily for past year, meaning more and more mobile apps are probably on too.

My mobile steam app is constantly on, I believe they are counting only Accounts and not duplicate numbers if you use both - the Windows app and on the phone simultaneously.

I always said that piracy is because games are too freekin' expensive for the majority of us, and not because people are a$$holes. Until not so long ago, I used to earn under 300Euro /month. Please explain me how can I afford a 60 euro game ? Impossible. Steam gives all those promos in which you get the chance to buy a game 3-5 times cheaper than the "list price", and this results in more and more legal customers. When the same game costed only 15 euros, I could afford it even from my very low income. Good job Valve, you did it !

Two-step authentication is an awesome feature tbh and I wish Origin and Uplay would jump onboard.

They have over 100 million user accounts...why they don't release Half-Life2 ep:3 is beyond me. Even if it was rubbish and charged $1 for it, they would get $100million in less than 24 hours.

Reputation though, Half Life 2 was so damn good, I'm sure they want to release a game that could stand up to those 3 Half-Life 2 games (think it was 3 right: Half Life 2, Ep1, Ep2).

There is two-step auth in uPlay now by Google Authenticator app, and in Origin by e-mail codes or app too.

I bet there will be no HL2 EP:3 or HL3 ever. They just can't do it right with so high expectations. Whatever they make people would say it's rubbish or not so good as they expect. ;-)

With that user base they should do own os for games, but not linux based system (cause not every game will work in linux), they should create os based on reactos (open source windows alternative, that would be better than windows 10 game mode, because reactos not need game mode, it uses small amount resources, but still not everything work yet, they could help with directx) I have all my games on steam

They*already have that. My point was not to criticize two-step authentication (which I use), but to point*out that this might be where some of the Steam concurrent users growth*is coming from.

So? So what? If they released it, no fuss or fowl, just released it. No trailers, no promotion, no marketing at all except logging into Steam one day and it's there, it would make $100 million in less than 24 hours. And, let us be honest, if the assumption is they care, then again, the logic falls apart even more so that they have not released it. In other words...if they really, truly, cared about it and the fans: THEY WOULD HAVE RELEASED IT. Financially, Valve make $350m + per year anyway, so...not losing out if the game would have sucked. I guess I just want to visit another planet far away from City17 and take-down the G-Man...only for him to be cloned and replaced by G-Man 2.0, or something equally as cool 🙂

Thanks for heads-up.

Half-Life 3 is a modern myth. I'm sure they quietly work on Half-Life 3 + Episode 1 and 2,somewhere on secret location isolated from global internet connection, communicating with Valve HQ with morse code. Its not possible they don't.Or they just put all resources to make hats for TF2 and anniversary 2000000 zilion-th patch that doesn't change anything.

Ever play though the HL2 or Portal games with the commentary on? The process they go through to make their games is pretty crazy. They have no issue making drastic changes even with much of the game done if it means it will be better. That is why they never ever give a release date until very close to gold. I think we will see HL3 and I think it will be THE VR killer app, because we don't yet have a game to push that platform.

Only if you enable it. It's not obligatory

Good Lord no. No VR please. It's trash and nothing but a passing gimmick as all previous iterations have been. Not to mention I will never ever strap one of those things to my head after reading about (multiple articles on the subject) research into the negative side effects (affects on the hippocampus and real world coordination degradation etc google it if you don't believe me)... Make VR optional sure but don't force it on ppl because some of us actually like our brains 🙂
