Guessing they and maybe Microsoft weren't expecting things to go full Batman Arkham Knight (heh) with the PS4 and XOne editions of the game, which if they had that latest certification process for the game probably would have failed. Feels like that build is just not going to work too well unless seriously overhauled and possibly further downscaled to get performance to 20 - 30 frames at least and overall more stable of course. But the games been in development since 2012 at least and active development probably 4 - 5 years at least so can't really cancel it outright, quite a situation. Quite impressive too not to hold back the game itself even if it's backfiring on Sony, MS and CD Project a bit now like some other initial cross-platform releases even if the build is already scaled back quite a bit over what the PS5 and XSeries are doing. Or will be doing I think it's mostly forward compatibility here with the current-gen versions to begin with and then the PC build with the full next-gen console builds for early 2021 think that was the plan. EDIT: Not the only game though. Nioh for one back in 2005 as a example. (Yep not Duke Nukem Forever, for once much as it's also a example though the circumstances behind it's long development time are more down to chasing the latest tech and perfectionism I think it was.) That at least had the PS3 edition cancelled but I guess that was unavoidable think the developers had some statement about it even "It just crashed." could have been the development itself the game or both. 😀 (Think it was actually almost rebooted entirely in 2013 - 2014 in fact.) Always fun when one of these lengthy development projects come up and especially manages to deliver but the active development after pre-production, planning and all that (Done very early on.) must be quite rough especially if it drags on the way some of these 8 - 10 years or more projects did. EDIT: Better consumer laws couldn't hurt either making refunding and such a effective and hassle free means for consumers whether it's digital or physical and despite publisher and what not trying to restrict or complicate these things. S***s broken = money back. Simple. But instead it's some lengthy process and hoping you get a decent human contact for the support inquiry and then timers and other factors even if the country has some better laws that could be leaned on a bit. Just don't do the whole credit chargeback thing or it's bye bye account until that little issue is sorted out and covered for with the extra fees involved when taking that action. 😀 (Or at least be really sure before going that route.)

All those online /youtube reviewers giving console versions 10/10 on release, when they really should've been saying console is currently a no-go.

Well they did make that chair though I suppose there were other clauses not just getting a "gaming chair" for it, I think one was that you had to actually use CD Project RED supplied media for one thing and reviews were likely done on PS5's and the X Series X maybe S versions less testing at least initially with the PS4 and XBox One editions but these are now popping up and with decidedly less impressive review scores unsurprisingly from what I could see from some users getting their copies early. (Including some footage after the day-1 update also came out.)

consoles should have gone with nvidia 3000 series gpu's. amd's gpu inside consoles are a year old already, and do not have many of the specs the newest gpu's have. most here know that, but, most console gamers don't.

R&D costs alone would mean this just isn't possible. Do you really think Nvidia hasn't been working on ampere for less than a year as well? Also think what would Microsoft and Sony do for a CPU? They needed a solution that was all in one and also power efficient, which Ampere is not. Besides, Navi definitely is no slouch.

Sure because ps4 and xbox one were a fiasco for those 8 years, right? As this same thread here should demonstrate, is the software making the difference, not the more powerful hardware.

What amazes me is how much they used on marketing, when this money could have gone to assemble a team that could have taken care of the PS4 & Xbox One builds.

I imagine the Rona played a hand to some extent, but you make a good point. The marketing was huge and the console version just wasn't there.

What are you talking about? No youtuber got console version for review. Actually noone got it, everyone got PC (Steam) version.

So before CP2077 released on consoles not a single reviewer had tried it?

The same Sony that put adverts for Life of Black Tiger out on their official Youtube channel for game launches. Ironic.

Yes, no one got console versions prior to launch. They were aware of the problems, so thats why they gave PC keys only. And yet still they released the broken console versions.

Digital Foundry has a great series of videos for Cyberpunk 2077 console performance. [youtube=l0aZocGxy3I] [youtube=C5pHpQqhmR4] [youtube=mVWJPYKCMco] PS5 and Series X seem to do alright(although there are still some bugs).

At this rate Epic Games Store free game for 20th December will be Cyberpunk 2077. At least it saves the refunds....

I feel so sorry for those who bought xbox one x cyberpunk 2077 edition. They are the absolute victims. No refund possible.

I thought games had to be submitted, tested and approved by the likes of Sony to be eligible to be on their online stores? Similar to app approval for Apple Store. Did they not bother doing it for this at all? Thought it was so big they didn't need to bother? Personally I thought it was stupid trying to get something like this running at any sort of performance on those last generation console hardware - only done for the cash grab of large market of potential buyers - they most likely thought that the frame-rates were good enough for "that lot".

A year old? RDNA2 just launched you know. It is even newer than NVIDIAs 30 series!

If the game would have been fully optimized for the old consoles there wouldn't be any issue, I see it more like a rushed release all over the board.

Well, let's hope for them that the game gets tweaked asap to run without hiccups

I wonder how the game played if they had not delayed it. They should have been less aggressive with a release date, this game clearly needed another full year of bug fixing and performance improvements.
