That's what they call a hostile takeover.

Just what we need a second EA.

They'll be using it for their streaming services no doubt. The current PS4 remote play work's surprisingly well and I expect them to continue it.

It was already dead, Sony has purchased 140 or so of the OnLive patents, not the company itself as far as I can tell.

You can't kill what's already dead.

Onlive was the best application 5 years ago and now! So why to remove a company after you buy it. Sony sucks. So, i say to anyone who don't like scumbags, don't buy tv's, smartphones, other products including Playstation 4 because what Sony did is murder. Sony maybe after 10 years from now you will have a service like ONLIVE. PS4 is junk compared to streaming service like Onlive. **ck you SONY!

Onlive was popular years ago. Nothing has been said about it in years. It was dead and Sony found opportunity.

Oh shut up you clueless buffoon, Onlive was pretty much bankrupt, Sony have bought what's left of the failing company to ensure patent trolls don't buy it and use the patents against them which normally happens.

Samsung and AMD
Gobble Gobble. Anymore news on Samsung buying AMD yet? Anyone?
It appears that Samsung wants to acquire AMD because AMD holds a license to make x86 related materials. So they may just do the same thing they did with Onlive. Buy AMD, kill it, acquire their licensing and talent and produce their own chips.

I dont see them ever killing off AMD. Personally I would think Samsung would give AMD the needed boost finacially to get them going on chip performance they need. AMD could easily produce the SOC's for samsung in house at that point. Wishful thinking. I just see SONY intergrating all of the onlive tech etc into their own systems just like Nvidia did with 3dFX.

Some people actually come to Guru3D for news. Which is often reported inaccurately here. Blame the misleading article, not the person reading it.

The x86 license is non-transferable. If Samsung bought AMD they would have to re-negotiate the license with Intel.

AMD holds a non-transferable x86 license. In other words, AMD is worthless to any buyer that does not already hold an x86 license. There is no way to acquire AMD without losing the x86 license. There's a "change of control" clause in the x86 licensing agreement that voids the agreement if control of AMD is turned over to another party at any time. This includes a "corporate buyout", "merger" or "hostile take-over". Basically, AMD must remain a separate, self-controlled company for the x86 license to remain valid. Just off the top of my head, the holders of x86 licenses NOT taking Intel and AMD into account are: IBM (manufacturing only) VIA GloFo (manufacturing only) TSMC (manufacturing only) Fujitsu (manufacturing only) NVidia previously held an x86 license for embedded x86 designs but it was discontinued.

+1 on this. It's bad enough that most games these days are digital d/l only (if the server/service is down you are screwed), now heavy rumours that the PS5 and nextBox will be streaming only. This is actually more bad than good that a streaming service is gone because it is just one step closer to having everything in the f*cking cloud hosted by an umbrella company. The same goes for paid music streaming. :thumbdown
