Nearly $700 for top end version and no AX support. 😱

Walkman? That name rings a bell. 😎 Had a few Walkmans, were the hottest thing back then. Loved them all. But then smart phones happened... 😕

It's hard to imagine that people do not have a smartphone.
There is a demand for this type of product, even more since Apple have stopped iPod production, sadly for Sony you pay this walkman for the same price than other brand but with less listening quality. Also people who buy this kind of product, chose quality over price. 2 reasons why Sony haven't success so much with previous versions, and might do the same with this one. Fun thing: they still do the real tape walkman but with modern tech and it is awesome (premium price, real metalic shell and button and so) and this one is really nice.

I here the founder? Of creative audio/labs has died? When it comes to portable audio I will stick with my S9.

There are places where a smartphone, or any device with a camera or a radio, isn't welcome to. Hard to say if that's enough of a market for anything, though.

The new real tape walkmans are bad, they use cheap chinese motors and heads, Techmoan is always complaining about new tape machines; good ones are no longer made because there is practically no market for them

Nice device... 230mw*2 (more than enough for 300 ohm headphones, probably also for 600 ohm), DSD 11.2 decoding...20 hours of play time.. And the price is exactly ok for this kind of equiment - almost audiophile grade.

If record players and yuppies are any indicators, they will have a novel amount of sales before it becomes yet another artifact of technological history...

Why only 64GB max storage capacity? This kind of device does not need any superduper speed storage, and storage is cheap. Even some of the old Ipods had more storage then 64Gigs.

Not sure of the type of storage but there is a microSDXC card slot so it could theoretically be expanded to over 1TB

Feels anachronistic. For such a nieche product, I'm not surprised they have to charge the price of a full grown phone for less than half of what a phone does.

Tbh, even with all the downsides I would be tempted with enough disposable income. Top tier listening on the go is always desirable, however I would much prefer carrying 1 device rather than 2. I'm not surprised at this product. Sony have great ideas, then shoot themselves in the foot. I remember having their high def audio players back in the day which only used their awful software and proprietary audio formats. Ugh. Same with their laptops, day 1 drivers and never updated again (especially when they brought out the manual gpu switch z-series).
