In 2008 JVC released one of its first top of the line D-ILA projectors, the JVC-RS1x, which was around $4000.-, as I can remember, already pretty expensive. Approx. 1/2 year later, I got one new for $3000.- street price. I really can not understand, why nowadays, new projectors are this kind of expensive and completely overpriced......feels like a rip off.... btw: the RS1x, HDMI1.3, 1080p, 800 lumen, still works smoothly at 26db (high power mode) with >5000h (third lamp), it never failed and we still have so much fun watching movies at night!!

The jump from 1080P to 4k gave the PJ manufacturers a chance to also multiply all their pricelists by 4x - they are rip off prices... but not priced for "normal" people, these are priced for the very wealthy american market where people earn crazy six figure incomes. eg.. to me the VPL-XW5000 model looks exactly like the old VPL-VW40ES 1080P model (but just changed the lamp->laser and panel to 4K) which was about 2000 new but can now be bought second-hand for maybe 500. For the price of 6000+ for it, you don't even get a motorized zoom/focus mechanism - still get the same crappy manual wheels found on the old 1080P model. They make you pay 13579 for privilege of motorized zoom/focus!
