why people keep spreading the lie - this isnt ray tracing period

THIS. ISN'T. RAYTRACING. It's ReShade postfx overlay that tries to emulate some of the look.

Pretty difficult to notice the differences in a significant manner. However, that fps was no good.

Likely never. Proper GI would do more good to the game. (And apparently engine which does not bug-out on every occasion.)

That was really not impressive at all, the worst example of rt.

Its not even RT at all. You cannot add Ray Tracing to a game from the outside with a shader, it has to be built right into the core.
data/avatar/default/avatar01.webp
That's a potato..
data/avatar/default/avatar06.webp
Without proper PBR textures and materials, ray-tracing is a wash effect. Same like the RT shader mod for Minecraft.
data/avatar/default/avatar19.webp
well its not "real" ray-trace, because the game engine itself dont have it in first place but calling lie or this is-not-raytracing isnt right either imo the tweak do some "rays/lighting" emulation in game ... people can call it reshade or what ever like it said "shader-tweak" ....so again what the ray-tracing in first place ? RT = tracing the path of light as pixels in an image plane and simulating the effects of its encounters with virtual objects, right ? so in short do some ray-tracing in it... even its more like half-bake-RT why people only think that RT need to be everything to the core-engine ?

Because of this:

Fancy shadows + terrible frame rate = RTX, right? 😀

I'm going to make an "RTX shader mod" that just adjusts the graphics config file of the game to max bloom, distorted contrast, and cap frames below 60fps. Then we play a game where we bet how long it takes tweens on youtube to notice it's not ray tracing. 🙄

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a bunch of different effects called 'ray tracing'? So this would be the implementation of one of those effects (bounce lighting/ray path) implemented using the depth buffer from the game, as suggested in the footage shown at 2:00 min in the video. If that's the case, it is proper 'ray tracing', only implemented partially. I also don't understand the hate, since this isn't RTX. 😕

I shouldn't laugh, but I did when the shadow decided it wasn't needed anymore on the left around 0:18

There's lantern above affected place. So, now you know how far "rays" go from viewport.

There are 2 things people dislike. One is bad graphics and another is bad performance. And two wrongs does not make it right.

I actually prefered the way it looked without the mod they had on it.

Check out Cinebench/Lightwave software if you want to see examples of real ray tracing hardware/software tech (I still love Lightwave!)--note that RTX GPUs don't do any of it--these cheesy shader lighting effects don't do it, either. (McFly is walking backwards now--he doesn't need to load himself down with cheesy gimmicks! It doesn't look good for a guy producing nice little rendering tools like ReShade to demonstrate such a poor, incredibly inaccurate knowledge of ray tracing!) Here we have another perfectly respectable technical term butchered by crass commercial interests--thanks a bunch, nVidia. This is almost as bad as when marketers started calling stereoscopy "3d"...Gahhhh! Remember? Took years to abolish the taint and the damage done to general, basic consumer-level knowledge about the 3d-gaming industry's products--messed up the layman's understanding of "3d" and "stereoscopy" for years! McFly should at least call his effort, "The shader effects nVidia calls 'ray tracing'!" I guess we're now going to have to use two terms for ray-tracing moving forward?..."RTX" for nVidia's pre-programmed, hybrid rasterization, and "RRT" for Real Ray Tracing"?...;) Before nVidia's RTX we never had to talk about anything except "ray tracing" because there were no false offshoots of it lurking in the wings...What a shame. What a sham. You used to be able to say "ray tracing" without a qualifier like "real" added on so that people would know what you were talking about... 🙄 Nothing like a little ignorance in the morning to spread all over our pixel toast, eh? I think it's kind of sad how OEMs (like nVidia--certainly not restricted to nVidia) will gladly ruin a legitimate technical term, a term with a rather precise and specific definition--a term which helps people develop a general understanding of rendering on the X, Y, and Z axis, etc.--simply to make a buck. OK, nVidia--RTX is not "ray tracing" at all, as you reluctantly admit when calling it "hybrid rendering"--so why do you falsely call it "ray tracing," anyway? JHH says onstage and in public, "We have ray tracing..." when RTX doesn't even get close to actually ray tracing! Can it be that JHH is actually this stupid? Tell me it isn't so...! Or is it maybe that he's simply claiming the RTX products do something they actually don't do at all--such as ray-tracing in real time @ 30 fps and up? *cough* (It's the latter, of course--and if it isn't the latter then nVidia needs a new CEO like yesterday...;)) If only we could just move away from the idea that making people ignorant and dumb is "OK," even "admirable," if you do it to make a profit...! How about...just not doing it at all? Enough people as it is can't tell you what ray tracing is if you ask them to define it--and now, it's only gotten worse. When OEMs want to make audacious claims I will hold their feet to the fire without a qualm and think nothing of it, as audacious claims should always require audacious proofs...! Best marketing on earth is when a company promotes what its product will do without having to invent utterly fictional capabilities along the way--and still convinces you to buy it! [Thanks, AMD--you do an admirable job of exactly that, imo.] I should think most knowledgeable people would be incensed about nVidia's blatantly false use of the terms "ray tracing" and "real-time ray tracing," in this case--as applied to its RTX GPUs--I mean, does nVidia think its prospective customers are brainless dolts as easily manipulated as a pack of five-year-olds led around by hand by Joey the Clown?.... 🙄....:D One could be forgiven for reaching that unfortunate conclusion, imo.

Definitely an improvement over vanilla, regardless of whether it's RT or not. These kind of threads always seems to end-up in Nvidia bashing for some reason. Obvious bias and from the same people every time.
data/avatar/default/avatar34.webp
the only thing them labeling it as "Ray Tracing" does is con people into buying into their patreon. hopefully people see the responses and don't do it....

Here comes Waltc3:D making shit up again bending definitions to suit is his anti-nvidia agenda. http://hradec.com/ebooks/CGI/RMS_1.0/mtor/rendering/rays/index_rays.html https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ray-tracing-rasterization,2351-8.html Pixar's renderman literally a hybrid raytracing system - but you know, before RTX we never had anything but "ray tracing". Let's ignore the other 500 variations of ray tracing - all of which implement various performance techniques and image quality differences!;) Here is another: http://www.cs.utah.edu/~acumming/cs6620/Computer_Graphics_II/Computer_Graphics_II_Spring_2009/Entries/2009/5/2_Hybrid_Ray_Tracing.html And dozens others found by a simple google search;). Your posts have worst narratives than S08 Game of Thrones.

When shadow/lighting blob literally pops into your face at 4 meter distance from viewport, you know it is raytracing done well.
