I still want a Babel fish.

How many speakers in every room would be necessary? What kind of bandwidth is needed to have every home and place of business along with mobile devices to be connected in real time? Or will it eventually be reduced to a single com-badge like in Star Trek?

The Star Trek universal translator is a device that is implanted in the ear. There were some episodes (DS9) where this was shown (some Fenengi went back in time and the translator was damaged; they couldn't communicate until they fixed it.) And only one such device was required between two people talking. If only one had it, it was enough. We need one of those :-D
