Great news, my most-likely next upgrade.

Mine probably too.

And mine for sure. Edit: unless Intel casts some magic.

Just hope my 3770k holds out for another year.

That has to be some real, f'ing magic, and I'm talking beyond Harry Potter magic, more like walking on water, or Merlin like magic.

From what I read recently, Intel currently has issues with the 10nm process. Question is will they ditch it and go right down to 7nm, or get "stuck". In any case, AMD set a deadline now, Intel has to respond.

Can't OC my 2500k steadily anymore. Not sure if CPU is degrading or MoBo just giving up on life. Hold on there bud, keep temps cool and we should be fine 🙂

Likely yes. I already needed to move from i5@4.5GHz badly. Even while fps wasn't that bad, I had horrid stutter in some games. Namely r6:Siege, where fps was between 75 and 160fps, but felt like 40fps all the time even on 240Hz FS screen. Now, butter smooth 90~160fps. Similar thing goes for Vermintide 2, where you set number of worker threads as maximum CPU threads-2, So up to 14 threads on 2700X. (I use 8) When playing, both show CPU utilization (as whole) around 32~38%. For CPU with 16 threads that's apparently more than 4 fully loaded cores my i5 had. And it is between 5.12 and 6.08 Cores used. If we presume ~40% performance bonus from each SMT core, you have 4+4*0.4 Cores = ~5.6 Cores depending on software optimizations for SMT. And apparently it depends on your fps target. if you lock fps to 60 in case you have 60Hz screen or consider it enough, you're likely be fine even in 2 years. But you may notice stutter as you approach limits of your CPU.

Mine as well, all it needs is a fast clocks and its a Win.

Cudo's to Amd if they truly pull off Zen2 at 7nm by 2019. Intel is having problems with their 10nm size wafers because their processing has too many steps involved to achieve a perfect wafer. This is slowing down production of "good" wafers. This is probably why they grabbed dufus, er Jim Keller, to help them with streamlining the process either for 10nm or perhaps 7nm. Superman stumbles......

Need to fast forward time somehow..... I want Zen 2 now 😎

Not that I'll need to but i'm pretty sure i'll be replacing my 1800x when these land. This new 7nm process looks very strong on paper and I have a feeling it will end up being very strong in reality. Being able to run at higher frequencies and a shrink to 7nm, that is going to make some pretty damn fine chips if it ends up being the case.

What's going to be the difference Higher clock rates and better instruction sets?

There was some information floating that we may expect clock rates around 5ghz mark. Also from shrink, you can expect less power consumption, which should result in lower temps. Slap on top of it soldering and you MAY have i7-2600k AMD 2019 version. 😉

it seems to be a landmark time if this release in time ... will be the first time in ...forever ??? since amd ... released a cpu that is ahead or the same ((roughly )) spec as intel .... none noticed that ? glofo & tsmc 7nm are about the same as intels 10nm that are delayed again no ?

while i wasn't with Dr. Su, i was at AMD on Monday visiting. at our lunch all of these items were brought up (except for financials) and if you guys weren't already stoked then this would be a long-ass tease...t h r e a d r i p p e r 2.0 adjectives are either too revealing or too imprecise (and i am um, reined in) all i have to say is OH MAMA!

I may indeed succumb to temptation and go to 12nm for the rest of the year and then make the jump to Zen2 next year--with maybe a new mboard, too. Right now I am trying to decide whether to jump from MSI to ASUS for a change.
