Huh, I actually have a Seasonic Focus Plus Platinum (650W). Well, I own neither a 970 STRIX, nor any of the two AMD cards. Still, this isn't good to hear. I bought this PSU because of glowing reviews, and it has performed admirably. Thankfully it has a 10 year warranty, and these issues should be covered by it.

And that's most you can do: Do your research and cover yourself with the longest possible warranty. Focus Plus was on my radar. Because of the fanless mode and the overall quality. Went for HX750i because of C-Link... I think [spoiler] Do your research...haha. What usually follows is: Google Trilateral Commission, Bilderberg Group or Google Frankfurt School research To become an expert on something after having done a Google search and 10 minutes reading on the internet. I was doing some "research" on 17th century painters last night. [/spoiler]

Bought a Focus Plus for my Ryzen 2400G HTPC build. Didn't work at all. Have to RMA it I guess. Anecdotally, my old Seasonic worked flawlessly, it's just some 5 years old, hence I wanted to replace it.

long period warranty still bad if RMA service is poor so imo get one with good RMA service luckily in my place corsair and seasonic have good RMA service, and as their not far from my area, i can drive to distributor/RMA service, and get replaced almost instantly other brands that available not as good as them in RMA process incase like this (compability issue) i bet i can discuss for model change or upgrade (i have to pay for upgrade though)

I have Sesonic Platinum 860W SS-860XP and Today every time i opened a movie in fullscren in MPC + MADVR, my PC would reboot. Doing 3D benchmark had no effect, using windows media also had no effect, I reset the MPC and now it works but Without MADVR [and MADVR is a must for HDR playback, unless you guys know about otehr media players that have build in HDR support]. It happened one time couple of days ago and a week ago it happened during opening web page tab. I posted some posts but people says that 860w is good enough for 2080ti + 9900k plus 5 HDDS and otehr crap that I have like 480gb optane and 1tb nvme EDIT: I opened my mouth too soon, after posting the initial message i opened furmark and got a reboot after 4 seconds

I know it's a little unrelated but you just made me think of it, after getting a new powersupply I got one of those power protection boards to protect my pc from electrical surge, do you have one of those? worth getting in my opinion.... it's just a 4 plug out one > pc power supply > monitor > audio > extra for whatever else... xD

for some electrical surge it can help... those surge-protector basically using MOV to absorb the surge power it wont help for thunder surge that over 1billion joules anyway rather than simple MOV filter, why not get a good UPS with AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator) ... it should have surge-protector also so give much better power-line

IMO seems more like gpu issue than psu. Problems you describe are gpu dependant, adding to it recent news about issues with 2080TIs i would assume your gpu is faulty. RMA it asap.

IIRC, the reviewer Oklahoma Wolf at the JonnyGURU site has several times made a point of noting that power supplies shouldn't supply two eight pin connectors on the same cable that connects to a video card unless they are using the heavier than normal gauge of cabling. He's noted how some cards can draw over the specification of 150 watts per eight pin connection, so you can end up with well over 300 watts getting drawn on that cable, and the lower gauge ones have sometimes been reported as having melted at the PSU. So yeah, I can see rippling as also being a symptom of an overload. Some PSUs offer cables with just a single six plus two connection for the gpu. They can handle cards that draw over the specification, even without them having a heavier gauge.

hehe thanks for your consideration guys, first I got one of those for each of my rig (gaming and HTPC), and my house has got a lightning rod (they all have here by law)

I just upgraded my system and along with other parts got a focus ssr-750fx, it's paired with my strix 1080ti. I'm gonna run some gpu benchmarks/stress tests to see how repeatable the issue is. EDIT: Before posting I've experienced the issue three times(maybe two), once or twice when only browsing the web and using discord Could I possibly get a link to suggested Pcie cables that may fix the issue.

Hi Johnyyy, Welcome to Guru3d! Mind me asking - You said you just upgraded - you are outside of return period?
I'm still within the return period, but I'd like to keep this psu if possible, as it's good value, good quality and similar designs(750w, full modular,etc ) are, from what I've seem, usually a bit more in price. Depending on neweggs take on the issue I may also be required to pay a restock fee. Thanks for the links and info. I may give some different cables a try.
