I'll continue to play my black wake.

I was able to run the beta at 4K60fps with one or two of the graphics options set to high and rest at ultra on a 980ti OC.

The game looks like a cartoon. It looks like it could be played on a decent, newer phone. I'm not quite sure what the craze is with the cartoony graphics lately (e.g. Fortnite)?

They look nice and give affordances to the gameplay and tone that you can't have with realistic graphics. They often age better too. Also did you see their water? That's like the best looking water in any game ever. None of it looks like it could run on a newer phone without looking worse than a PS1 game.

It looks like it's Nintendo-Switch ready if you ask me. The water doesn't look a whole lot better than Akella/Bethesda's Sea Dogs from a decade ago (one of my favorite titles of all time!) and then a cartoon on top of that? I guess that's how you get the 60fps promised on the Xbox One X, huh? I feel like this type of look is novel, but also a step backward. Hopefully, there's some substance to the gameplay itself since it will be the only ship-battle title out there in (and most likely FOR) a long time.

Huh ... it doesn't require 1709 to play, I'm kinda surprised :P

To be fair DX11 is still actively developed by Microsoft and will continue to be for the foreseeable future. Microsoft mentioned that they intend DX11.3 to be an alternative to DX12 when developers don't see a need to use low level APIs and nothing I've seen in Sea of Thieves would really benefit from DX12 anyway. Seems fine.

I would say get used to it. M$ is forever trying to get folks on Win10, and will continue. I have little issues with Win10 other than the usual M$ BS stuff.

why would a game studio alienate the most popular operating system? can't make money like that.

M$ money and investment in the game industry? 🙄

you can bet the next Call of Duty /Battlefield /Assassin's Creed /Far Cry game would not think of something as financially irresponsible as that... maybe it'll sell well on consoles.

It makes perfect sense to make it DX11, especially as a new franchise. This allows them to make it an MS appstore exclusive, then, a relatively easy Steam release further down the line when they want some more cash.

I don't understand your question. The games publisher is microsoft, why exactly would they not? And Rare, the developer, is owned by Microsoft as well. Have you not paid attention to the fact that microsoft has been doing this for....awhile? (correct me if i'm wrong in this list) Halo Wars 2 - Requires Windows 10 Gears of War 4 - Requires Windows 10 Gears of War Ultimate Edition - Requires Windows 10 Forza Horizon 3 - Requires Windows 10 ReCore - Requires Windows 10 And honestly it makes sense. They'll either: Make money on the console release Or Make money on the PC release, and get more people on windows 10 Win win for them.

To sell the game to the masses...? your theory is like selling ice cream in the winter time...

Now that is a nice detailed way of showing what you need to run the game at diff res and settings

Must be really demanding on Nvidia, if you need a 1080 Ti for 4k 60fps, where as AMD, you only need a Vega 64 :P
