Does it really cost that much to build that 85" HDTV? Even if its 4K? Its build from meteorite fragments? Really? $40K/29K? Even with all the costs included(R&D, PR, MANUF.) I highly doubt it costs a friggin $40K/€29K to build that HDTV. Oh yeah, its only for companies, ultra rich people.. Now it makes sense.. NOT!
Getting a panel with defects within acceptable limits on a screen this size? I don't think it's cheap :P

It's just 4 55" 1080p screens taped together. Not that impressed as it is not increasing pixel density. Wake me when 27-32" 4K @60Hz are avalible for $500.

Wow! That is my dream TV. I just upgraded from 46" to 65" two weeks ago. Now I cannot sleep knowing that there is 110" on the market. Of course if I had that much money I would use them as a down payment for the house.

Silly money.....but if we had it we will get one 🙂 4k is very much suited to a screen this large, but I would have to move house before I bought a TV that big. 60-70inch is more reasonable for me for 4k, even if there is a white trash stigma with big TV's, but small TV's and monitors are just a hugely unenjoyable experience for me.

After seeing a 4k projector at a friends house I made it my goal for 2014 to get a tv around the 60-70 inch range... 🙂 he had a projected image of about 150 inches i think it was and bluray movies, hdtv, and even some games looked hilariously good.

lol, me too...it's a little annoying as that comparison doesn't seem to apply to houses or even cars. Personally when it comes to sports, it would be what you likely call Soccer. Though my main love is MMA/Boxing or even tennis, all look fantastic on a very large TV, especially with interpolation enabled (which is something i usually hate) Not convinced this screen is made for gaming though, as mentioned i'm not sure if 30hz and over is supported due to HDMI standards. I did see a 4k Sony TV at J&R's in New York at the end of July, unfortunatly it was hooked up to what looked like a pretty run of the mill BluRay player and even playing a super clean movie like Avatar it wasn't exactly selling it to me when upscaled, and i'm pretty sure i was one of only a small few who knew it wasn't native 4k content.

China had 8k in 2011... this is bullcrap!!!

110" is just ridiculous... Why not show products intended for the average consumer instead?

Pretty sure i read that Japan were messing with HD in the 1970's so i doubt we can complain that new formats are not being launched in the west, in my experience people in Europe and even the US tend to have the "it's good enough" attitude. Sykozis, since when did average consumer products make it into news stories?

Ironically, i completely missed both those threads. Not saying i intentionally did it, but my sub conscious clearly though they were of little interest compared to something like this.

Hilbert is pretty good about posting things that apply to everyone.

I'm glad this product exists, as the tech gets exposure. Average consumers don't know the difference between teevees and buy something based on price and size (will it fit?) alone, sometimes by brand and particularly if their friend recommended it. Srsly - making something this for the average consumer is pointless and a waste. Funny story: a friend of mine invited me round to critique her new tv. She used words like wall mounted and flatscreen. Knowing her well, I knew she didn't know a ****ing thing about teevees. I went round and saw she had wall mounted it above the fireplace and that it was probably the smallest flat screen ever produced. At 26 inches, it looked all alone on this huge sparse wall, like a stripper with a small penis on stage - I felt sorry for this teevee. I told her it was probably not a good idea to have plastic above a fireplace and, that the teevee was a little small. Her answer to both was 'nonsense, it looks good'.

I get your point and I'm all about the exposure and stuff.. But people forget that 4K is been aroung for more than 10 years. Yes. 10+ years. It didn't make the consumer market obviously and if I had to guess it would be the lack of hardware and contest as the most probable reason. And expensive technology back then. Also Panasonic revealed a 150" 4K HDTV in CES 2008 and another 152" 3D 4K HDTV in 2010. So that makes it 5 years which in technology is a lifetime of "exposure". Not to mention their 145" 8K like another member mentioned. Just using Panasonic as reference. 😉

@AcidSnow the 4Ks from sony support HDMI 2.0/60Hz with 4K video (might need firmware update). why would i buy this one? samsung (or almost all companies selling 4K) have no background doing 4k/upscaling to 4k and have no content (because of that). AFAIK sony is doing upscaling to 2/4k resolution for 10y in more than 10000 theaters in this country. they actually dont need a 4K feed to make the tv look good (go to a store and look at a 4K mastered 1080p BD, and they sell a 4K projector that does up to 300in for 25000$. And really gets funny when people tell you they bought a samsung cause it was brighter.. i rather have the one with the better picture (and at least for the 4K sets its not samsung).

Lol 40k for a tv what a laugh. Someone even with a lot of money would have to be foolish to pay that much.
