Got in love with ultrawide after using it for a while and only thing that would make it even better is oled and a proper hdr.

What does anyone use a 32:9 screen for? Just productivity? Games will require mods to work with that ratio, movies don't go that wide, etc I'm waiting for my 3440x1440 screen to arrive and I've been thinking perhaps that's too wide to be practical.

as usual, "here's a bright af panel, but ofc we put a mud coat on it in case you plan on using it in your balcony at noon" I wonder how popular these 32:9 monitors are really, 21:9 is about as wide as it gets without constant fiddling around with settings and workarounds, 5120x2160 34" 120hz OLED would be my pick

Samsung should just start making freaking highend monitors that aint curved ! Would have bought the g7 32" in a heart beat otherwise...

32:9 you can have 2xfull 16:9 windows open like dual monitors just with out bezels orultiple stands involved etc ... really is not that strange

I find it perfect size for a desk monitor and just enough wide. I cant go back. Only issue i find with it that resolution can be demanding as it has 25% more pixels to render than 16:9 1440p.

Does that increase load time?

My biggest concern is a lack of support, I already use FlawlessWidescreen occasionally to fix game issues so it's no extra software for me beyond what I already have, but it made me aware of how common it is for games to lack UW support. And for what it's worth it's ~34.4% more pixels. My 3080 weeps... but then again it's not like performance scales linearly with the amount of pixels being rendered; 4K is 2.25x 1440p. Hopefully it won't be that big of a hit to performance.

Nope.

If my 3070 is doing alright your 3080 will be fine too. You are right not every game scale linearly so sometimes is more demanding sometimes not by much. As for support its great. We are not in 2010's anymore every game supports 21:9 these days.

@Neo Cyrus I think in 32:9 you are in terms that there will be content you consume with black bars left and right .... But black bars are part of it on any format ...16:9 on movies up and down , 21;9 on series left and right etc that said on video contentost likely will be on any kind of video.

16:9 should be default on a monitor like this.

With a little creativity there is never black bars. 😉 Credit @metagamer on his G9 https://abload.de/img/el73ikrgpd0p.jpg

Hope they have more desktop friendly sizes coming in oled at high resolution, like 38 and 32 inch in 4k or so res. These huge sizes are moronic on a desktop, i’d like to keep my eyesight and neck in working condition. 😕 The immersion is just as good and better at 38” 21:9 and 32” 16:9. I’ve tried 48 inches on a desktop and it is just too much for the eyes/neck, even sitting back a bit.

Unfortunately for me, there entire genre of Metroidvanias doesn't support 21:9, in fact I can't think of one that does (at least natively). And who's idea was it to call 3440x1440 21:9? It's 21.5:9.

Bring on a 16:9 non curved 240hz 4k oled at 27-32" already!

Will be my next upgrade in maybe 6 years when we have GPUs that can handle it!

I'm just curious...... what problems are people having with "support" for very wide monitors that results in "fiddling with settings" of any sort? I've been using 21:9 for quite some time now, and recently got the current Neo G9 32:9 monitor, and I've yet to find a game that I play that DOESN'T natively support it. Or am i missing something?

32:9 is too wide for my taste. I'm on a 38" LG with 3840x1600 and don't plan to replace that any time soon. Perfect width to not have the sides disappear into peripheral vision, and the extra height vs 1440p is worth it.

I've only seen like 2-3 games that natively support 32:9, if games launches and you see whole monitor covered by picture is NOT game supporting it, it means game just can run in that resolution. There is no fiddling in settings because it's something you can NOT fix. The only problem with 32:9 is usually FOV problems and UI problems. If you have UI elements in corners you can be DAMN sure nobody put a second thought about SUW monitor when designing UI. Good luck watching minimap when it's in corner of 32:9. Then there is bad FOV where edge of screen is so stretched you can use it as a ghetto binoculars when looking around because picture there is so zoomed in that even in game binoculars if game has them don't zoom that much. LOD clipping on side is visible as hell a lot. Some games don't even consider debugging past 21:9 ratio and you will see graphical bugs beyond that like shadows moving in opposite directions, view distance being borked, shader elements missing or just complete lack of background where you literally see end of textures. There are LOT of problems with 32:9 but they usually mostly boil down to UI being complete garbage (UI in corners/wrong scaling/UI out of screen bounds).
