Very good advice from Samsung, but somehow people fail to do malware scans on other more used devices - computers and smartphones - let alone SmartTVs. Moreover, for the vast majority of people if the TV shows the TV show, it's working and that's that.

And where are the instructions? I guess this is for people installing dubious apps and not for normal Netflix users?

What a time to be alive. God help people who actually plug their TVs into the internet.

You mean everyone? Plug in? How ancient... they are wireless now. My Sammy works really nice with the S10 for screen mirroring and other simple things.

Mine will be fine - it is denied internet access so that it can't show me bullshit adverts I didn't ask for in the menu/ home screen. My next TV will not be a Samsung.

What to watch programmes built into the TV set like Netflix etc? I assume LG may issue similar guidance soon hopefully?

99% of the garbage on TV that passes for "Entertainment" is malware by another name...imho 🙁

True, but content is not what this news article is about.

The downside of the "smart" devices. A privacy and security horror show. The more devices connected to the internet the worse it becomes. This is why I'm against IoT and owning too many "smart" devices. Unless privacy and security issues will be resolved I prefer to stay away from using too many smart devices. In the case of smart TV I always prefer to leave them disconnected from the internet.

All in the name of convenience. instead of having an HTPC, SmartTV fills the need for content consumption quite nicely and conveniently. But lacking security while at it. And the funniest of all is that "smart" devices are in the hands of some vast majority of "average not-so-smart Joe".

+1... most of the time I'd rather watch the malware.

Plugging my TV into the internet is less of a security risk then plugging my PC, phone, game consoles and other items such as them into the internet. So i guess if i'm too scared to plug my TV into the internet, i just shouldn't even bother accessing the internet with...anything? Sounds smart..............

Does Samsung allow any app to be published these days? The last Samsung TV I had the app selection was pretty limited and was restricted to their store. Now the Sony I have runs Android TV and I can install whatever I want from the google play store or by side loading. That's what would worry me.

It might be different for different models but for mine it's: Settings > General > System Manager > Smart Security > Scan

I use a Roku Ultra. Smart TVs spy on your viewing activity even when not using the "smart" apps. Smart TV manufacturers stop updating said apps after a few years rending the features useless. Apparently, they get viruses too. Smart TVs are a scam.
