Just wondering about the launch dates on page 2, weren't the 970 EVO and PRO just released? The table says April 2017 though And yep, still reading to see if Samsung gets even more of my money...

The 960 EVO 1TB can be had for €356 which comes out to €0,35/GB vs €0,43/GB(€429). edit: The 960 EVO 500GB comes out €0,38/GB vs €0,44/GB for the 970 EVO 500GB. But obviously the 970 EVO was just released so it commands a 14%(€27) price premium for the 500GB model and 20%(€73) for the 1TB one.

As I went from a 950 PRO 256GB to a 960 EVO 500GB recently, I'm inclined to say nill difference noticed in day to day usage.

And still no protection against data corruption/loss caused by power loss/issues. Not talking about AC power loss here, as a ups covers that. crucial/ocz/toshiba have it, sot is not rocket science and it doesn't cost billions to implement ...

It's funny, HDD's even with their fancy advanced technologies ... PMR, Helium, SMR, HAMR or whatever they want to do next... never caught up with interface speed. SATA3 (600MB/s) is still over 200% faster than the fastest harddrives. With SSDs it only took a few years to saturate the SATA3 speed. Now the same thing happens with NVMe... these new Sammys are basically hitting the limit of 4X PCI-e . PCI-e 4.0 can't come soon enough ! (Or something else, beyond PCI-e...)

Actually thats not true anymore. New Seagate dual actuator drives can double in certain situations throughput of normal drives, which is currently around 240MB/s, giving it teoreticaly up to 480 MB/s.

It can go life once Samung has posted it on their website. Last time we posted the v2 software I jumped the gun and posted prior to their public release, and got a world of hurt from Samsung.

Would be interesting to retest a 960 EVO with the new driver. Perhaps some of the speed in the new model comes from lower driver overhead, and not just from the SSD itself.

That was checked by me already. The answer is no, it makes no difference.

Amazon has lowered the price of 960 EVO 500GB to €176 which brings it's cost per GB down to €0,35/GB which again comes out 24,3% cheaper vs €0,44/GB(€220) for the 970 EVO 500GB. Just for those interested. I would say €176 for a 500GB Samsung 960 EVO is a "great" deal.

Just because it's new, I really want a 970 Pro. But, my 960 Pro is a tad over a year old so I'll not upgrade and chalk it up to money wisely saved.

Well ive just bought a second Samsung 960 512gb but this time i got an evo to go next to my pro....£145, in the grand scheme of things a couple hundred mb/s is no biggy.
