Good idea, the Ryzen was more or less a disaster with the mounting with the only exception being ASUS for having mounting holes for AM3.

Very smart move - not only does this make the CPU's value go up, but it doesn't alienate 3rd party vendors like I thought it might have.

very nice move! AMD is doing it very well with Threadripper

Hah i said a few days ago "i hope its made by Asetek" because they make some of the best liquid coolers. AMD is doing everything right that Intel is doing wrong.

I never understood why AMD didn't manage to keep the cooler mounting the same between AM3 and AM4. Intel has managed to do that for years between a multitude of sockets. Anyhow the TR socket is clearly much bigger so any compatibility was out the window anyway, but bundling with a bracket for one specific vendor seems a bit weird, even if it applies to a few more products since they use those components.

Calling it a disaster is a bit of a first world problem. Many of the latch type coolers fit on the AM4 and there where plenty of coolers out there to use for the 1-2 months it took to get a free Noctua bracket or many of the other brands that had similar services. I mounted an old AM2+ cooler on mine and it runs perfectly with overclock, i could have used my Phenom 955BE box cooler if i was really desperate.

They did, if you use the clip type. Also keep in mind AMD had been using the same heatink mounting bracket since socket 754, and was compatible with all desktop sockets since except for AM1 and G34. That was released in 2003. Including AM4's compatibility with clip heatsinks, are you telling me 14 years isn't long enough?

Mounting wasn't much of a problem for me. I went with a custom loop for my Ryzen system, and EK offered a free AM4 mounting bracket for their Supremacy Evo. As for the topic, a mounting bracket is nice, although I'd still like to see a water block that covers the entire IHS.

Yea! I have a brand new Corsair H100i I haven't used just waiting for a new home. My plans are coming together.

Would this mean that it's compatible with the coolers on this list from Asetek's website? I need to find a case I can fit a 360mm radiator that isn't a full size case.

Except the only reason most liquid cooled AIO's are Asetek is that they sued anyone who made a CPU block with a pump on it. Swiftech's Apogee was arguably a lot better but due to Asetek's litigation were unable to sell a competing product in the USA. However the move from AMD is welcomed and pretty awesome. Always wondered why it was up to the Cooler vendor to supply mounting kits instead of the CPU vendors...
