I'd be happy with somewhere between 12 and 16gb. I'm not sure what the future holds but, at this stage that is probably overkill as it is. Won't say no to more as long as the cost isn't prohibitive.

If this turns out to be true then first you have to upgrade you wallet to pay big money for these upcoming cards.
I recon someone is mixing up leaks and infos with nVidia Quadros.
Me personally wouldn't think this is the case and nVidia becames Santa Claus with the new generation of it's VGAs and gives us massive amount of vram.
I wish I was wrong.

I just want this gen to do 4K (or more) 90Hz+ efficiently. So I can finally get a Laptop and do 1080p 14" 75Hz+ with less heat and energy.
The Asus G14 ROG with Ryzen 4800HS + RTX 2060 seems amazing already. CPU is already there with 7nm and 8(16) cores, now I want to see what mobile GPU can be added in the future to improve this laptop

4k gaming is overrated - it makes sense only on a screen larget than 35inch. 1440p is still the perfect middle-ground. Slap on top of it upcoming ray-traced titles and any upcoming GPU most likely won't be able to handle even 60fps on 4k + ray-tracing.
A similar situation is with those 13inch laptops with 4k screens - 99.9% won't be able to see the difference between 1080p and 4k at that scale - but "muh screen size"....

Doesn't look credible to me, why have 3070 super @ 8GB an 16GB version then a 3080 super @ 10GB no one bother with this an just get the 20GB version. Also makes me wonder about pricing? recall long time ago when they was different vram sizes for same version cards be $100 difference between them? so we thinking 10GB 3080 super is $699 an 20GB version is $799
likely pricing in my opinion based off these different vram configurations
3060 super $299
3070 super 8GB $399
3070 super 16GB $549
3080 super 10GB $699
3080 super 20GB $799
3080 ti 24GB $999

This headline is a bit overstated don't you think? The Quadro RTX-8000 has 48GB and the Titan RTX and Quadro RTX-6000 both have 24GB. Granted, those are not consumer-level cards but they are available today.

@cryohellinc
lol.
funny how you say you dont care what/how others are gaming, yet turn around stating 4k gaming is overrated.
maybe to you, but thats irrelevant to the plant and millions of gamers..

After the rumor with Big Navi flagship having 16 GB VRAM somebody at Nvidia said: " What??? We have more!!! Now Eat Your Heart Out!" - AMD team will reply soon with a rumor about Big Navi having 64 GB VRAM made from pixie dust that will run once you rub the side of it...
On the serious side to have this amount of memory and make efficient use of it you need a very big and strong memory bus width and this comes with a big price increase - the rumor says nothing about this...
Also 24 GB of VRAM for a consumer graphic card it's more than future proof...it's a waste of memory- I don't know a game that can use this kind of memory right now and in the close future...
The sweet spot is between 12 - 16 GB max...

I do not care about all these numbers, until I see 4k at 60fps or more in games like Red Dead 2 or Horizon Zero and with all the graphics in ultra I will not buy a new gpu again.

Press X for doubt.
24 could be real only if they release it as a Titan with their usual overinflated prices for that double precision.
On gaming cards nvidia never put more than the absolute minimum that they can get away with. Minimizing costs and planed obsolescence all in 1.

Those vram numbers seems a bit high, and unlikely if we consider that NVIDIA is rumored to use high speed GDDR6 for Ampere (it won't come cheap).
At the same time, at least with Turing, enabling Ray Tracing had the effect of eating Ram like no tommorow, seriously affecting RTX 2060 (NON super) RT performance with everything else maxed out.

Amount is of little importance above 8GB for gaming. Right question is: "Will those double density chips have same date rate as 1GB chips?"
Sure, I can imagine 18Gbps chips at 1GB capacity to have reasonable price by now. But does that apply to 2GB chips?
Samsung site says that they have 16Gb (2GB) chips with 14 and 16Gbps. Site says that only 14Gbps chips are mass produced.

Look, let's not forget that Obsidian is doing Skyrim!
I'm going to need those 24GB for all my... uh, texture mods. That's right.

My prediction:
TITAN/3090: 24GB
3080 Ti: 16GB
3080:12GB
3070 & 3060: 8 GB
And one year later, 3080S 16GB, 3070S 12GB
And for AMD:
6700XT: 16GB
6700:12 GB
And one year later, 6800XT 24GB HBM2 with the same price as 3080 Ti

It seems highly unlikely we will get more than 16GB on the 80/80 Ti model card. I wouldn't characterize that as "more than ever". It's just the next logical step after years of 11GB being the top offering from them.

I can't even remember seeing VRAM usage @ 10-11GB on my card. Is anything above 12GB useful unless you're playing at 8K which no GPU can muster anyway?
