Will work with their pro cards , more control of the interconnect means they will be in a good positition for super computer type customers. Quite a shrewd move

Interconnect for super computers/machine learning/gpu server farms/etc. Unlike PC gaming they are markets Nvidia can grow in.

Maybe they should employ you to tell them what to invest in, rather than the highly qualified elite people they pay the big bucks each month.

NVidia never focused on GPU only... Remember that they were the maker on the best chipset for AMD 754 and 939 (a bit ironic isn't it), also the embedded processor and car equipement is a major point of the company. About this rumor it is because despite what AMD try to do, for pro the choise is NVidia or NVidia, and as a major actor of the segment NVidia tried to offer even more to it's customer.

With everything being "cloudified", the Xbox one that loose the optical in few week, the next PS and Xbox that will focus on online and streaming game, the OSes that will end this way too... Yes it could be a nice move to promote their equipement as a whole package. Again it is still rumor 😉

Anyone remembers that Nvidia had their own NIC embedded in the platform as @rl66 mentioned?? More so, more hardware offerings in the server arena is a sure investment.

not a rumor anymore: SANTA CLARA, Calif., and YOKNEAM, Israel, March 11, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- NVIDIA and Mellanox today announced that the companies have reached a definitive agreement under which NVIDIA will acquire Mellanox. Pursuant to the agreement, NVIDIA will acquire all of the issued and outstanding common shares of Mellanox for $125 per share in cash, representing a total enterprise value of approximately $6.9 billion. Once complete, the combination is expected to be immediately accretive to NVIDIA’s non-GAAP gross margin, non-GAAP earnings per share and free cash flow. The acquisition will unite two of the world’s leading companies in high performance computing (HPC). Together, NVIDIA’s computing platform and Mellanox’s interconnects power over 250 of the world’s TOP500 supercomputers and have as customers every major cloud service provider and computer maker.

Then, you should quit using cellular, RF, ehh.. actually it'll be a quite long list of technologies to boycott. You can just throw away your PC, router and phones to be a true BDS sectarian.
