SOLD! My 5.1 Roccat Kave originals are simply awesome, they give amazing sound quality coupled with my Creative Sound Blaster Z card. This might be a nice step up seen as there are a few short falling's on the original design like the head band becoming uncomfortable after a few hours of use, the unit is pretty heavy, and the detachable mic is pretty weak and the connection is known to not even pick up the mic when attached. Can't wait for this to come out now!

The sound quality of the Roccat Kave was very impressive, the XTD looks even more impressive.

It's Xear based, and does sound really good with some great options, True 5.1 sound btw. Not gonna be cheap though.

That's the only thing putting me off buying on, is the price. The control panel has a 5.1 sound card built in to it, so does that mean you don't need an existing sound card?

Correct yes, and the control pod also has outputs you can use for your speakers. The Bluetooth functions is very funny though, mid gaming you can take a call 🙂

The fact that you don't need a sound card makes it worth the price, but how does it connect up to a PC? The Bluetooth feature could lead to interesting conversations, or not. 🙂

Previous one has that one cable split into 5, 3*3,5mm for surround, one 3,5mm for microphone and one USB to power up that thing.

That's why I was wondering how this one connects to a PC. If it has it's own dedicated sound card, does it only now use a USB connection, if so is it true 5.1 sound still?

USB, the soundcard is housed in the control pod.

I figured as much. Just trying to get my head around how the 5.1 part would work. Guessing its coded on the pod which houses the sound card. Pretty clever stuff.

Damn just bought the Kave a week ago ... :3eyes::bang: Its a great headset tho the headband sucks ass (hurts after a few hours) and i think audio-wise mid band is alittle blend with music. But in games (BF3) its just awesome. But how will this one sound? I hope its really 5.1 because a friend of mine has the Razer Mega and its simulated and its immersion just sounds so bad compared to the Kave.

5.1 is a digital signal, so it almost doesn't really matter how you transport it. Only thing that would be a down for some is the lack of good op amps, else the placement of the drivers works pretty well on the Kave's. Looks like they improved some things, headband looks thicker so it shouldn't be needed to add your own piece of foam to carry them for longer sessions, hinges seem also to be replaced to something more durable. Only downsides they still got, is that they use solid material for the ear cushions, and that they still are closed back, deeper bass on the fly but removes a lot of air.

I wonder if this new headset is still only compatible with a PC, and not PS3/4 etc. Would be great if they were.

So hang on!? My original Kave has 5 connections, 3.5mm front, sub/center, rear, mic, and usb to power it. Does this have the same or does it connect to the PC via a USB and then the software on your PC will send the sound signals through the usb to the control hub's sound card then to your ears? I am slightly confused, if it does that then that means I can't use my Sound Blaster Z card?

It has it's own built in 5.1 sound card, so it won't need any other sound card to work, and connects via USB. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwiF6AIJz8k http://www.techpowerup.com/img/13-08-21/189d.jpg
