Hang on, where are the 8 core Coffee Lake CPUs?! I thought they were supposed to be coming out next year - you know like the 8700K but in 8 core rather than 6 core.

Hilbert, maybe I'm looking at it wrong but I swear that chart shows Cascade-X landing 4th quarter 2018 not 2019 like mentioned?

Just rumors, Intel has never confirmed the 8 cores on the consumer platform and from the looks of this chart it's 2+ years out..

BAH!! 8 core with the same architecture as 8700K (none of the infinity fabric or mesh nonsense like the Skylake-X processors) - this hypothetical 8 core would be a really good gaming CPU, just building on the prowess of the 6 core version (8700K). Fairly unexciting for gamers then, the best we've got is 8700K until 2019! If this is the case, then this news article is quite a bombshell, no better gaming CPUs than 8700K till 2019 earliest!

So we're getting a refresh of a refresh?? I will calmly wait for Ice Lake probably in mid-2019 at this rate

So, no Cannon Lake, no Tiger Lake, no Ice Lake in 2018.... OK Your move AMD 🙂

The "Lake" nomenclature has certainly had its run at intel! 🙂

That's nice *except Cofee Lake-S extending all the way to 2019.* But,lets go back to present times: WTH is going on with i7 8700(K) availability?? It's hard to believe that Intel is unable to satisfy the demand, and hence the scarcity is happening naturally. 6 cores i5 did sound wonderful, but less so with the (slight) price hike and with Hyper-threading being taken out. And the proper 6 core (8700K), if available, is not much bellow 500 EUR!! So wtf has changed Mr. Intel?? ... not much!

8 cores hypothetical i7 8900k is new chipset Z390

Yep, and you'd think that would be included on the slide, but it's not - seems like it's not gonna happen in 2018, so sometime in 2019 earliest as an assumption.

Intel has been caught in between major node changes (manufacturing tech change driven by mobile and other non-Intel fabs) dragging their feet. While AMD has driven cpu design forward with their ipc, power, and core count. And creating an alternative method of dealing with Moore's Law. Intel has a hit with the 8700k. they are earning back the node shrink and are stinging from the market response to the 7700k (which i actually own - mobile cpu) which is good but not as good as the Ryzen 1700 for far less money. the 8700k gives the Intel marketplace a breath of stability and is better in every way than the Ryzen 1700, and the $150 - $200 difference plus clocks makes this a super premium buy. while it's selling barely over $400 which is Intel's sweet spot. i don't doubt for a minute that we will not see a i7 (or 9) 9700k until CES 2019.

Now the question is, will cascade lake- x be compatible with x299, or will it require yet another new chipset and/or socket revision. 🙄
data/avatar/default/avatar02.webp
user1, of course Cascade Lake will be compatible with X299, it has always been like that - 2 CPU families for each HEDT chipset. Guys, the 8-core was just a rumor by Eurocom, no one else ever said anything about it. What is really weird is that Cannonlake/Icelake stuff - what will be next for desktops and when? I mean, look: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/design/products-and-solutions/processors-and-chipsets/platform-codenames.html https://i.imgur.com/61yjsGx.jpg They mention "Client DESKTOP Platforms code named Cannon Lake", does it mean there will really be desktop Cannon Lake CPUs? And then they say "with Cannon Lake PCH-H" which is what they are about to release in 2018 as "Intel 300 Series Chipset" (not only Z390, but also all the rest - H310/370, B360), so does that mean there will be those Cannon Lake desktop CPUs compatible with upcoming Intel 300 Series Chipset-based motherboards? But the weird part is that there were several articles saying there would be no desktop Cannonlakes at all and that the next generation of desktop CPUs after Coffeelakes would be Icelakes. So what is going on? As we see there will not be anything but Coffeelakes throughout 2018, but what will be in 2019? Cannon Lake CPUs compatible with H310/370/B360/Z390? Icelake CPUs not compatible with any motherboard released in 2017-2018? I can't get it - AMD said several times that the AM4 socket would be alive at least till 2020 so any 2017-manufactured motherboards should be compatible with Ryzen Matisse that would be released in 2019, thus those who bought Ryzen do know they will be able to upgrade to Zen2 without a need to buy a new motherboard. But when it comes to Intel, nobody knows what will be compatible with what exactly, whether or not the Coffee lake platform is upgradable or not at all, it's stupid and it makes people go for Ryzen.

I hoped the rumored 40 pci e lane Coffee lake S processor is true. I use my PC for gaming - no video editing or decrypting government servers so a googleplex core x chip is actually slower for gaming than my old 4 core 6700k. In addition to the inane price of the x core processors they draw more energy and they generate so much heat they turn your PC case into an easy bake oven needing more cooling which means more noise. I don't begrudge video editors getting umpteen core processors with plenty of PCIe lanes but I'd like Intel to throw some love at us gamers again soon as it has been proven even the 1080 ti does better with 16x lanes than 8x - I imagine next years GPUS will want even more bandwidth.
