Okay, got a slight discount for the XFX MERC 310 RX 7900 XTX which, according to GN is the most badass card around because of the number of X'es it has. I paid about 1297USD in all, 200USD above MSRP.

@Hilbert Hagedoorn Any insight on upcoming models with 1895 MHz GPU Clock and 2677 MHz Boost Clock?

Hilbert can you update the FSR benchmarks to use the actual GPUs to show any difference from reference? It seems this one is more closer to the 4090 when 1440p or under... Fairly incredible for a tuned GPU.

Pics taken from shop where my friend had collected the card for me, There's also pic of said card being held by a staff member of the shop, just so my friend could take a pic of the 3x 8pin PCIe connectors (pretty sure these won't melt 😉 ). It's a pretty hefty card from the looks of it.....am I the first here with this card? Prolly not.... https://i.imgur.com/oIBeBeY.jpg https://i.imgur.com/xlJFuXr.jpg

Is this the thinnest 7900 xtx? I know it's clearly heavy, but if it's the thinnest version of the 7900 xtx I think it'll work with my case.

It's supposed to be 2.7 slot, my Saaphire Nitro+ RX 6900 XT is 2.5 I think, so while it thicker than the reference ones, it isn't outrageously thick.

Hey Hilbert, have you tried vertically mounting the card? Or, any RX 7900 XT/XTX cards? Or, more specifically, cards with vapor chamber, would cooling be affected? I've read that vertically mounting a card might affect cooling. I'm thinking of vertically mounting my MERC 310 when I get back (ugly back plate) but have read that cooling might be affected in a recent article or two....

Mine actually melted the middle 8pin connector on the gpu. Don't think it's a common issue, but it still happened.

Jeez, what PSU are you using? Mine's a Corsair HX1000 Platinum, no issue thus far.....even using a U-PCIe power adapter for better cable management. That's why you don't see the cables sticking out in my pic https://i.imgur.com/pEMe1EK.jpg

@Krake how long ago did this happen and did you have any RMA issues? Just wondering how everything went or is going.

@mikeysg I am using a Corsair RM 850 that's 80+ Gold. It's no more than 2,5 years old at this point. As well as PC part picker say my system peaks at little over 600 watts, so should be fine. @Brasky Well, i had just bought the gpu, and i live in Norway so there's a 14 day right to return when a package is opened. Im almost guaranteed to get my money back from the retailer. They have already accepted the return, and i have sent the gpu back, so im just waiting to see what happens atm. Luckily i have a 4070 Ti waiting in the mail pickup point that i got for free as my ASUS TUF 3080 nuked itself within the guarantee period. I was planning to sell the 4070 Ti so i would get an easy cheap high end gpu (the 7900xtx) but oh well, can't complain either way.

You should probably RMA the PSU as well.

is that the psu cable or an extension?
data/avatar/default/avatar07.webp
@Alessio1989 It's a Phanteks custom sleeved cable extension. I did some research on it, and some other people have had the same cable melting or had their pc black screening because of bad contact on the pins wich is similar to the problem i had. Making the retailer finding nothing wrong with their gpu when trying to rma it. However, my 3080 had actually nuked itself and the cable was not the cause. But regarding the cable melting while connected to the 7900 XTX, i got an email today saying i will get my money back, but sadly no details on what actually caused the cable to melt. From my standpoint, it's likely the cable itself is the reason, and i have taken out all the custom extensions from my system, just in case.

Yes, cable extensions, even if of "good quality" are just another piece in the puzzle that may increase burning issues. I would avoid them with all those crazy power hungry gpu.
