Great review. I still in love with my 840 PRO .. 🙂

Any chance of results with the whole "RAPID" thing turned on? Mainly RAM usage while gaming is what is confusing me. I only have an 840 EVO, but I've been super curious about using the RAPID feature. Anybody have any experience with it?

Ouch! Love the review, hate the price! I'd also like to see the benefit of RAPID Mode. I have 16GB RAM so would be interesting to see what that RAPID does to performance when gaming!

Nice to see that the Pro series meanwhile has arrived at the price levels the EVO was at when I got mine. So my next PC build will only have Pro series SSDs. Other that that, can't go wrong with Samsung. Got experience with two 830s and one 840 EVO meanwhile, and they're all fast and reliable.

850 evo's coming soon too

Love my 840 pro. It scores the same thing in AS SSD Benchmark and HD Tune. I have been looking to replace my Intel 520 120gb for something else as my OS drive, but I don't think its worth spending money for a marginal increase in performance which I may not even notice.

I have the 830 and I'll wait for the 900 🙄

in real world stuff, I don't notice rapid mode at all, It looks good in benchmarks but other than that, I don't notice any improvement with it on or off. when it comes to file transfer or loading times in games/apps

How much is the 256GB version slower?

Oh my, those things I could do when I would've had this baby in my rig...I would buy the 1gb one if the price wasn't so freaking steep.

You mean 1TB 🙂 but I know what you mean, new technology + early adopter = Freakin Expensive!

sticking with my 120GB 840evo until it needs replacing, only used as an os drive and 2.5TB hdd for storage. cheap and cheerful but good enough.

Yep yep, obviously I meant the 1 TB one, idk what would I do with the 1gb ssd drive 😀:D and yeah, they are still so freaking expensive, one would thought that in the year 2014 ssd drives prices wouldn't be so steep, but oh well...

My HTPC runs a similar setup, 120GB 840Evo, and 2TB WDred. Can't complain so far, the Evo works flawlessly. I wouldn't replace it until it needs replacement, tbh.

that's awesome, I managed to get back £130 back, thanks for linking!
I've not long updated to a Z87 system so for me it's not worth buying a new board yet! Glad you saved some cash though, £130 is a good amount to save!

amazon has 1tb for $549, that's $100 lower than newegg and others, I couldn't believe it and double checked that's correct so I placed my order. I think that will be the price the others will follow in the near future and be stable for a while.
