So again absolutely no reason to upgrade from any Intel top tier CPU from the last 5 years, if gaming is your main reason to use a PC.

You must be referring to the integrated GPU? Cause there's barely a 5% increase when using a dedicated gpu at 720p, also remember that it syncs all cores differently then other platforms, so if you sync devil's canyon that margin becomes even less

I wish we could have seen some more cpu intensive games - total war and arma 3 but it is a good review with the RAM OC.

No I'm referring to high performance discrete graphics situations. The reason we test low res, low detail gaming with dedicated discrete GPU is to see how much longer the CPU will hold out before it will become a bottleneck.
This does not mean it directly translates to about 13% better overall performance in current titles.

It seems like it, hopefully "Zen" comes out and shakes things up a little.
I don't expect it to be anywhere near the level of performance as the mighty X99 CPU's but I at least expect it to be near to my 4770K level performance.
If it overclocks well too, and the price is right.
Intel will have to do something big.

It looks to me that if you're in the market for a modern i7 you're better off going X99 at this point in time. I'd take the 5820K over this any day tbh, there's not that much in it price wise.

How did it beat the 6 core 5820K in Handbrake FPS with only 4 cores? And a higher 3DMark06 score too?
It's just a die-shrink isn't it, and its a lower consumer CPU too, so how come better than 5820K?
Also when is the Haswell-E replacement due and what's it called? Kabylake is it?

Decent proc, sticking with my 2600K. The TDP isn't very impressive given the die shrink.

Well yeah, maybe current CPUs are powerful enough. You aren't getting any CPU bottlenecks in games are you?
With 4k getting more and more popular you won't be seeing any hard CPU bottlenecks.
Not to mention DX12 will reduce the overhead. You'll see even less CPU bottlenecks in the future.
Until they actually decide to use that extra CPU power.
You can't compare like that. By that logic, how does a 4770k floor the FX-8350 so hard? It's quad-core vs octa-core.
Skylake is a tock, not just a die shrink. Broadwell was the tick -> die shrink, Skylake is the tock -> new microarchitecture.
The new microarchitecture perfectly explains why it surpasses its older six-core sibling, the 5820k.

Atm it looks like the 5820K and upwards are more interesting. They seem to offer pretty much the same performance with the 2 core bonus. In applications where the cores matter they even beat the skylake quite easily.

If you have anything post 2600K, it makes no sense upgrading your CPU, particularly if you overclock. The gains you get are not as significant as when upgrading GPU, and considering you need new motherboard to go along with your new CPU, upgrading makes almost no sense. If you're building a new rig, that's another thing entirely.

I'm just about buying one but then everyone keeps talking about 5820K. Not sure I understand why though since that CPU base Clock is just 3,3GHz and I don't think its easy to get it up to 4,7GHz on air like the 6700K seems to be albe to achieve.

I'm more impressed then I was with the last two generations of i7 quad cores. I would definitely recommend one of these for a new build, whereas for the 3770 and 4770 generation I was always checking to see if any stores had a cheap backstock of the previous gen CPUs.

Im looking to upgrade my i7 3770k as it not the best overclocker , but come on Intel the prices here in the uk stands @ 300 UK pounds for a OEM and 319 pound for Retail version .
Where the hell are they getting there prices from ,, this is just silly , you might as well go and get a Intel 5820K (Haswell-E) £293 🙂

Yep, @ $400 for the cpu, $~299 for the motherboard, and $? for the DDR4 ram...it's quite the bargain...[not]... 🤓

Damn almost 420 Euros here for the 6700k. Definitely not worth the upgrade.
