2 years...

2 years is an awful lot of time. Does this mean that in these 2 years AMD will ship only APUs? I don`t think that todays FX series will last that long. Meanwhile Intel will be free to do whatever the hell they want with the CPU market. I`m not sure that this is all good news. Besides, who knows what will the cpu market demand be in 2016!

2 years is probably the time they need to short out the performance and get the new architecture up to snuff. Intel are destroying them in the mainstream and high end segment. Sure they offer excellent bang per buck without a shadow of a doubt that is true. But Intel still performs better, overclocks better, uses less energy, etc. Where AMD shine is in the APU market, their chips completely destroy Intel's offering, their iGPU's are immense and can only get better. Focusing their efforts on releasing affordable APU's now so they can make some money is a great idea, that money can then be pumped into R&D for their higher end chips. As much as people think AMD will go out of business, they won't. Intel as much as they are competitors need AMD as much as AMD needs Intel.

meanwhile intel will continue to take a dump on the i7 prices. BUT this is good news. I seriously hope amd will come up with a great architecture. considering that intel's been focusing on power consumption lately, amd now has a real chance to catch up and compete, even if the chips are likely to be power-hungry. at least no more 200W tdp overclocked-to-hell chips that barely compete.. fingers crossed.

At least they are doing something ! If I remember correctly, two years ago they said they will completely exit the high-performance CPU market. Go AMD, never give up ! :vader:

Well FX-9590 looks still good for these days, and lets be honest if you buy that one you can run easily with that CPU Games etc till 2016, I'm running FX-8510 and still not changing it because i can run pretty much everything, so if they really do keep the word and it's not going to be another 2 year I'm ok with it. P.s but definitely will go to Intel if it will take longer.

Im pretty sure they have to redesign a CPU from scratch, so 2 years is nothing. I wuoldnt mind going AMD again. AMD K8 so good.:banana:

Two years is a very short amount of time to design, test and fabricate a complete new processor which isn't just a derivative of the previous version.

Could this be that monster 16 core thing?

2 years is okay My 4 year old Core i5 750 3.4Ghz with Raedon HD 7870 XT can do 99% games at MAX settings smoothly without any issues. I am can do another 2 years just fine without full system upgrade. I will only upgrade my current system when something revolutionary change in PC hardware happens. I believe only AMD can deliver such a revolutionary change in PC hardware....

Agree and I even hope, that they could do it for only 2 years. It would be interesting to see, if this new architecture would help with their APUs.

For developing, yes! But as for the market, in 2 years who knows what will happen. I don`t think Intel would be that stupid to sit and wait what AMD will bring. But I could be wrong.

They're still sticking with quad core for the mainstream for until at least up to Skylake.

Well when there is only a handful of applications that even make use of quad, I really don't see the need for more cores. Intel will always go where the money is and right now the money is in mobile.

Right now, every new console (bar the Wii) has 8 cores (slow, but 8 anyway). games will start to take advantage of those 8 cores not too far down the line. I read somewhere, could have been wccftech, but they rumoured that AMD would be going away from CMT and heading towards SMT, like Intel. Also, some of the Chip Devs who worked on the K7/K8 and the DEC Alpha are back for this time round. I'm actually expecting big things from this new architechture. Bring it on AMD 🙂

I don't know about you, but for me when I see the letters AMD and FX in the same line, I still get my heart pumping faster. Back in the day, these processors were the ****, even though I could never afford one, I always dreamed about having one. AMD better get their **** straight and not waste all the magic of the FX brand (again) on lackluster chips...

B-but I've already been waiting for something to upgrade my Phenom II for two years... 🙁

I think AMD learned their lesson regarding the whole Bulldozer thing - they know now they can't take the cheap and easy way out and they know they can't convince people to change their workflow to optimize performance. AMD was under a bit of pressure to get Bulldozer out, as it was already late, but it does get me to wonder if releasing it too early was really worth it. I'm willing to wait for this new CPU. I've considered going intel for my next build but if AMD can prove this new architecture to be competitive, I'll gladly stick around.

The 8350 is basically a monster version of the 8 core jaguar processors in consoles. It will be fantastic for the foreseeable future because game studios will be programming specifically for that 8 thread style processor. If there ever was a future proof processor, it's the already like 3 year old 8350.
