I really don't like that they aren't allowing custom designs. That is a Big Minus in my opinion. I hope they will cancel this decision.

Custom or not it will make it that much easier for aftermarket partners to get them water blocks out to us faster with one standard design. From what i am seeing i am going to be highly pleased with this card and a water block with this single slot design that this card will be capable of! That is with a single slot mounting plate that will hopefully be available at the same time...

That standard boost does sound rather nice I think. With a little OC they'll hit 1800 or more with no issues and same temps, not too bad.

I'm not sure this is the case. It could just be a rumor. Personally, I will consider buying a custom model (if there are any) only if there is a waterblock available.

By the way, there is now a reference design Vega VII card in XFX's website, but the specs mentioned are those of the Vega 56

I dont see why they will let AIBs to make Vega (insert all models) with HBM2.Because of hard work process to make HBM2 to work, will be very shamefully for Amd if AIBs will f**ed up Vega with HBM2. Only Sapphire(who manufacture all reference and pro video cards) will be allowed.

Something does not add up here: Same 300W TDP with only 14% higher boost clock? Is it really 14nm against 7nm? And side note for those who did not notice: Transistor count went up by 5,84%. I doubt that's what it takes to add 2 more HBM2 chips. There is some additional work. Especially when we consider that Radeon 7 has 6,25% fewer TMUs in comparison to Vega 64 and that small clock boost... How does one explain shown performance boost? Or are there drivers boosting performance that much behind corner? (Other chance is that AMD managed to fix gaming related parts which did not 'work' on Vega 64 => transistor count.)

Whats the reason for not allowing custom designs exactly? Its a weird decision, and do not want this to be the norm for the future... :\ Would like to see what this card could do under water, or a beastly air cooler. Any info regarding when we will see the first reviews? Guessing this will be released before the card is available for us consumers, am i wrong to think that? Anyways, iv got mixed feelings about this card when it comes for my use. The price is my main issue, and its just a updated design of a old architecture. Im a bit skeptical it can be called a 4k gpu, im not sure if the rtx 2080ti is a "real" 4k card. Currently the only card on the marked that is capable of giving the performance iv been waiting for. I just really dont wanna support nvidias pricing, and im tired of their shady tactics..

2Ghz possible? 😀

It is most likely that demand for a card like this after already existing GTX 1080 Ti and RTX 2080 owners is too low to let make custom designs of it yet. AMD plays pretty safe these days and they will first see how much the card will sell, since we all know that the first patch are partly functional professional cards. I think there shouldn't be worries about the cooling and it looks great to me, but those who wanted a more compact alternative for small cases are left out, though would it really be any benefit to put such a card in a small case? Temperatures would undeniably rise without water cooling. I'm very eager to see how this performs.

AMD makes pretty decent reference designs for their boards. Their cooling solutions always weren't the greatest, but the cooler for Radeon VII looks to be pretty decent itself on its own. Really unless you're going to be doing some hardcore overclocking, the stock might be all you need for a basic overclock. Anything over that chances are you're gonna put a waterblock on it anyway.

Safe is smart, and i have nothing against stock cooler. It seems ok, maybe fans could be a size larger or improved. Isnt it 3 parties making the boards etc, they just get the chips from amd? If thats the case, i dont see how amd is taking much of a risk to let asus (for example) trying to improve the cooler solution more. Being it smaller or larger, and water. I cant see asus making the product worse with their experience. It could also allow for some water solutions. Something i will highly consider in my next upgrade. Maybe the chip is pushed to the limit, cooling is not the bottleneck. And there is not much point to it other than throw on some led's and calling it amd R7 excaliper Vll ULTRA gaming force 2, with aura lightning. Or what ever name they feel sells.. 😛

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is the boost clock of the reference cards AMD was showing 1800mhz?? Thought for sure that's what on their white pages for their presentation....

Radeon V two or Radeon seven ? What is the correct name ?
