just my point:
why complain about renaming???
since as long i am in computer stuff it has always been like that
the old high end become medium and there is only the high end who is replaced by the bleeding edge GPU.
btw it's not an AMD only syndrom: there is still Kepler in the actual line of NVidia

I remember the HD 2900XT launch.
It didn't take the performance crown despite the improved memory bandwidth, so Ati put a really agressive price on it.
If this Fury X is not better than a GTX 980ti, at least I expect an atractive price.

I still find it hard to believe that with only 1.5 months till Win10/DX12 release, AMD would release a whole new line of cards with most of them sporting DX12 support of a lesser degree than the competitor's cards from the previous year. AMD likes to fancy itself one of the fathers of major DX12 features due to Mantle, rightfully, so it just makes zilch sense.
For some reason my video cards have been from AMD and NVidia alternately, but man AMD is making it hard this time. I desperately need to replace my ancient card soon, though.
I very much hope this proves to be wrong and they did something to the chips.

Hmm...
Not very rightfully. Those kind of "close to the metal" APIs have existed in consoles since stone age and the current X1 modified DX has been close to DX12 from day 1. When developers started whining about this issue on PC AMD created Mantle to go past DX11.x to deliver those close to the metal improvements to performance. Of course they hoped developers to utilize that to get serious competitive advantage in software agaist Nvidia because they really cannot compete in hardware anymore. However it seems developers didn't care about that much because DX12 is coming and is much more videly supported.

Seems to be a lack of "X" cards from the leaks that we have seen so far. Rumor was that the full Tonga (Tonga XT? ) was going to be the 380X. But nothing leaked from the vendors to show that a 380X exists, so far. Also no 370X.
Perhaps AMD has a plan for these. Yeah, I know, but i can dream. 🙂
GPUs are probably not going to make or break AMD. ZEN will. Zen has to be a success or AMD is done. A success does not mean it has to beat Intel, just close the gap significantly.
