Pcper: "Final Thoughts But until that driver is perfected, is bug free and is presented to buyers as a made-for-primetime solution, I just cannot recommend an investment this large on the Radeon HD 7990."
The word "until" is the key word here, it implies that once the driver is available to buyers he would at that point recommend the 7990. As quoted "On one hand, this new prototype driver has really impressed me and the amount of effort the company has put into completely reworking the Catalyst pipeline to address this issue is impressive!" In almost every game pcper used, the 7990 using the prototype 2 driver was superior in maximum observed frames and minimum frames.

I haven't been following GPUs in a while, but now that this card is "officially released", how long does it typically take for manufactures to start producing and selling them?

Really wish people would stop comparing a dual GPU card to a single GPU card. Also it took AMD all this time to finally beat the year old 690. Lets see how long it takes nVidia to respond with an even faster card knocking AMD back down for the next year or so. However AMD has a good platform with this card. would be nice to see them fine tune their drivers more and really get the most out of this hardware. At the end of the day if it was not for this competition between AMD and nVidia we would both be paying outrageous amounts for video cards.

Good read. Very expensive card, though. I think I prefer two cards over a single one with two GPUs. Cheaper and more flexible with the same or better performance.

finally beat?....Being on Top is still on Top...4-24-2013... Competition is always good for consumers...:)

Don't come back to this thread.
Oh wait you didn't pay for the card right? You only got to review them for a short while. You get pretty upset when you paid your working cash for it.

Anyways I'll leave the thread....No need to ban me as i like this site and i have been following it for a very long time.

U should read other reviews also;if u prefer high latency and micro-stuttering,then Radeon 7990 is u card. Many of us prefer smooth gameplay.
Did you see the new beta driver? It's also to note have you actually experienced microstutter with your GPUs? It's been noted it's very user dependent on whether or not people notice the micro stutter. Oh and just so you know the 690 and all multi-GPU setups micro stutter to an extent. How well it is mediated is dependent on the company. Hence the driver release by AMD significantly reducing the frame time latency problems.

Personal opinion, that reference cooler design is god awfully ugly.. would like to see sapphire come up with something.

Didn't expect such performance. Considering its still on beta drivers, more performance could be squeezed.
AMD 7970 video card, $350. AMD 7970 video card, $550. AMD 7990 video card, $999. Watching panicking nvidia fanboys, priceless.
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/HD_7990/ After reading the review here I just don't think it's worth it to spend that much on a card that only works great in games that scale well with crossfire. some games it actually performed worse than the 7970 and was damn near at the bottom of the charts while the 690 and Titan were at the top http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/HD_7990/5.html So at the end of the day it's only faster than the 690 in some games.. while other games the 690 blows it out of the water. 1k is alot of money to pay for a card that relies on crossfire for it's performance. Almost seems like AMD was rushing this one out before fixing the crossfire issues to compete with nVidia

That cooler really makes the card look cheap. I'm sure AMD was more focused on the coolers functionality than it's appeal, but to me if I'm paying top dollar it better look the part (aside from performing).

MSI could make it look the part, among others no doubt, i hope it's priced competitively, just anything to keep nvidia's pricing in check these days. It's getting to the stage where i could say goodbye to this very very expensive hobby, if i gotta be a willing fool just to play some games at ultra then i'm out. Paying x2 the price of what something is worth just ain't right. I'm referring to nvidia here.

Thats why I usually go with something middle ground.. and as far as hobby's go this is probably the cheapest one I have, gave up all the other ones for computers

I'm a sucker for GPUs, i thought the 7970 lightning was just fantastic. Never owned one but the look of it, it's features, strong Vram + uber OC.

Cyph3r is right....it's like earing a 2nd (or 3rd, or 4th...) opinion from a doctor, we should always read ALL the possible reviews availble, because testing systems, company pressures (both from nvidia and amd) tens to condicionate the final results and conclusions..and aftaer reading almost 10 reviews, the bottomline is: In absolute performance, the cards are tied, maybe just maybe with a slight advantage to 7990 In relative performance, the NO DOUBT winner is the 690GTX, cause performance/dollar and performance/watt it wins comfortably the 7990. In real play experience (read tom'shardware), in a non biased painel, nvidia won again...in a very clear way. In terms of money (don't tell me it's not important), well it's a no-brainer also, the 7990 altough arriving 1 year later to 690GTX, it's more expensive in cost of product, and in a daily basis because of power comsuption, the 7990 is also more expensive. So altough having a bit more in terms of scalibility, the card just doesn't add nothing, and only in biased heads it comes as a winner agains the 690GTX...so NO, there's no new king in town, the king's not dead..and nvidia/amd lovers or not, the TRUTH is, the 690 is a superior card, therefore still the king!

In real performance and price/performance most would just be better suited with CFX 7970s..

It really is a shame that such great hardware specs can be bottlenecked by drivers.
