"Milestone" Not barrier. I hate when people refer to some random number as a "barrier" only because that number hasn't been reached yet. The only real barrier that the universe has is the speed of light. Nothing else.

I would be really surprised if it doesn't get completely dumpstered by the A14. Qualcomm is the poster child of disappointing... I was going to say disappointing performance and efficiency every generation, but really disappointing everything. Anything they have a hand in always seems sub par compared to what it should be for the cost. All that hype I've been hearing about the future going RISC-V due to being open source... that future can't come soon enough.

You say that as though barriers (in this context) are permanent. Although 3GHz is a bit arbitrary, ARM CPUs are known to struggle to clock anywhere near that high, so, 3GHz is a nice round number for "a clock speed ARM CPUs can't realistically do from factory". It has been a legit barrier to push them that speed without obliterating any efficiency advantage they have. So although it is a milestone to get such a CPU that can actually be usable in a phone, breaking past a barrier can also be seen as a milestone.

That's not true at all. There are other constants in physics besides the speed of light, or more accurately known as the cosmological constant (since it applies to more than just light). I would argue any attempt to break the laws of physics is a barrier.
