More interesting is how the performance and cooling changes from the original Ti Twinfrozr design. Way too much emphasis on looks of internal components these days. Function over looks any day. The clocks are identical to the original 1080 Ti Gaming X, so presumably performance remains quite similar. Hopefully the review contains numbers for that card, and not just reference, for comparison.

I think it good that they have stepped away from the red and black combination of the gaming x edition , im looking forwards to the review and cooling performance as we all know that Pascal is all about the cooling in order to maintain high clock speeds and stopping the throttling .

This seriously is a very good looking design. And the 3de fan makes it even better. Well done MSI.

Isn't this just a lightning LE?

You say that like it's a bad thing πŸ˜‰

MSI 1080Ti just got a whole lot sexier! Kudos to MSI's design team. Did a fantastic job! πŸ˜‰

Not a bad thing at all. The lightning is a waste for most users but it's cooler is amazing. This looks like an interesting card.

The Lightning cooler is still quite a bit thicker though. But cooling performance comparisons to Lightning and the old Gaming X would be neat.

Card sure looks great and will stand out in anyone's build.

"totally 100% silent" That's funny, I can clearly see 3 fans on there, and no mention of them shutting off. Ergo, not silent. Can't believe you're still making this error after all these years Hilbert...

And yet it is.

Virtually silent. Not that hard to understand that it's not a literal statement

Still no decent fps in 4k with one single gtx 1080 ti unless u sli them ofcourse hilbert πŸ˜‰ Beautifull card tho.

I agree, "Function over looks any day"! But, I don't mind them focussing a bit on looks - as long as function is not compromised at all by looks then that's cool. New card looks ok, but I think I've seen better lookers, but I'm interested in the performance & will be interesting to compare to their previous design in terms of performance.

...my mind is split just as a married couple in their 2nd-3rd year - when looking at that sexy new girl or boy and you get slapped back by reality (plus a lil' jealousy). that is easily the best looking msi card since the old yellow/black lightning. but it is longer than twin frozr so it may be less case compatible. still it is something to lust over. again, that old buyer's remorse (but not full on) when the most fabulous cards come out at the end of the product cycle.

Really though, we should be on the 11 series gpu's by now. It's been a year and a half since the gtx 1080's were released. This is what happens when AMD can't compete with nvidia's high end cards. NVIDIA gets lazy

I mean it's two different architectures - Kepler/Maxwell were over two years apart and the 1080Ti only came out 6 months ago. It's been stated multiple times that Nvidia is most likely waiting for GDDR6 avaiability for their Volta consumer cards, GDDR6 is just going into volume production this quarter. 11 series will probably be out in March, presumably to counter AMD's 12nm Vega refresh.

@spine if you cant hear the card, its silent. doesnt matter if the fans are spinning or not. do have to say i never liked the 3fan solutions with different fan sizes. smaller fans need to spin faster for same airflow, so i'd rather have three 90mm fans, than two 100 and one 80mm (or whatever those are). i dont like to hear ANYTHING come from my computer when its not under load, and even need to throttle 9db fans to make them "silent", and so far all 2 fan cards i had where a bit less noisy (under load) than any 3 fan card. and i didnt even own a x80 or ti. not saying this isnt silent, might just not be silent "enough" for some.

Gosh, this is ugly. Why not go the full path and put 3 fans on both sides ? That would a MSI sexto... Air cooling seems primitive nowadays, I personally would like to see more ready to use water cooled graphics cards on the market.
