What makes you think that next year will?
To extend the life of my RX580, I am just not using it.
Retro gaming on a Raspberry Pi 4 and some other on my HTPC. No way I'll pay full price for a new GPU.

Cheapest 3060 right now in Canada is is 550cad before shipping and tax so that price doesn't surprise me. New cards just aren't worth it and I'll just keep playing older games like I have been. Ridiculous that a 3060 costs now what a 1080 did not all that long ago...

Do graphics cards typically die of old age? I've yet to have one fail on me (Granted I don't have a massive sample size, still rocking my 290X)

Unfortunately, a while ago I lent a friend a perfectly good 670 GTX which he killed, followed by a 780 Ti, which he also killed...

I lent a 9700 pro a few years back to a mate. He managed to kill it by spilling water on his PC. Such a cool card back in its day.

The 9700 Pro was the card that changed the game back in the day. That wonderful single AGP slot of technology had a dominant run for a long time. I had the 9800 Pro then swapped it for the 9800XT. Great memories and good times with friends.
During that period ATI dominated. The image quality was so clean. I also remember many of us poking fun at Nvidia for making such huge cards back then. We used to call them mini vacs. LOL! Fast forward years later and now we see Nvidia set the standards for Video Card cooling. All cards by AMD and Nvidia are now larger than my size 14 shoes! LOL!

Graphic cars now die prematurely due to poor quality parts and construction. My friends Asus Dual RX580 (made by Palit) barely lived one year. To had insult to injury Asus didn't cover warranty, waiting for justice to solve the issue with hundreds of similar cases.
Old cards made in Taiwan were made to last 10 years or more of average gaming. The crap we get from China is made to barely last 2 years, you bet they'll die (specially if you're buying second hand from a miner).

@TheDigitalJedi hehe back then when the fx 5800 ultra landed it came late it was slower than the 9700 pro and it was if i am not mistaken the first card to feature the tube cooling thing and the first card to sound like a vacuum cleaner when running full tilt this is why it became the laughing stock and the fx branding for nvidia never to be mentioned again ! Thankfully for nvidia the followed up 6xxx series was in general from very solid to exceptional across the board !

Absolutely. I do remember the FX series branding. Remember the introduction of Bloom effects? LOL! Nvidia took a hit during the FX period but has made an awesome comeback. The 6000 series was great. I also had a good time running the x1900xtx in Crossfire with the Dongle and the 8800GT in SLI. I still have Ruby on my shelf lol.
Currently both companies have homerun products.

@TheDigitalJedi the 1900 series from ati was solid as it was the 7xxx series from nvidia but then ati had a bad round with the hd2xxx series and amd had on one of their now legendary status releases the 8800gt is one of the legendary cards if you ask me 😛

The page format looks like pbtech's www.pbtech.co.nz 'cos I visit it so often. Under normal circumstances US prices are generally half that of NZ prices for graphics cards. 1.00 NZD = 0.70 USD. Price includes 15% tax and import costs.
